Patent number: 7555008Abstract: Method and system for providing data transmission with transparency over the Gigabit Ethernet data stream includes receiving the 10 bit code with a data rate of 1,250 Mbits/second from the encoded 8B/10B data and arbitrarily selecting 9 bit codes using a look-up translation table which can fully represent the 10 bit codes received. The translated 9 bit codes with a data rate of 1,125 Mbits/second is then provided to eight STS-3 inverse multiplexer which inverse multiplexes the received codes into eight STS-3 data streams each with a data rate of 155.52 Mbits/second plus an offset ? which are then provided to the modem for transmission to the far end via the optical transmission path.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2006Date of Patent: June 30, 2009Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Anthony William Jorgenson, Nicholas Joseph Possley

Patent number: 7480704Abstract: Each node in the network broadcasts its unique identifier to the other nodes. Each node assigns a different network address to each of the nodes based on the unique identifier received from the node. However, each node assigns the network addresses in a common predetermined manner. Thus, each node arrives at the same assignment of network addresses. In a preferred embodiment, the assignment of network addresses is maintained as an address table at each node.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2006Date of Patent: January 20, 2009Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Tjandra Trisno, Chris L. Freckmann

Patent number: 7447436Abstract: A transmitter subsystem generates an optical signal which contains multiple subbands of information. The subbands have different polarizations. For example, in one approach, two or more optical transmitters generate optical signals which have different polarizations. An optical combiner optically combines the optical signals into a composite optical signal for transmission across an optical fiber. In another aspect, each optical transmitter generates an optical signal containing both a lower optical sideband and an upper optical sideband (i.e., a double sideband optical signal). An optical filter selects the upper optical sideband of one optical signal and the lower optical sideband of another optical signal to produce a composite optical signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2006Date of Patent: November 4, 2008Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Ting K. Patent number: 7346279Abstract: A heterodyne communication system uses coherent data modulation that is resistant to phase noise. In particular, a pilot tone and reference clock signal are transmitted along with the modulated data to form the basis of an electrical demodulation local oscillator at the receiver. The pilot tone and/or reference clock signal carry phase noise which is correlated with the phase noise in the data signal. At the receiver, the local oscillator is generated from the pilot tone and reference clock signal in a manner so that the local oscillator also has phase noise which is correlated with the phase noise in the data signal. Thus, the two noise components can be used to cancel each other during demodulation of the data signal using the local oscillator.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2002Date of Patent: March 18, 2008Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Ji Li, Laurence J. Patent number: 7228077Abstract: Attenuation caused by dispersion in an optical fiber communications system is compensated. A number of low-speed channels is to be transmitted across an optical fiber. Each low-speed channel is allocated a different frequency band for transmission. The attenuation caused by dispersion is estimated for each of the frequency bands. The power of each low-speed channel is adjusted to compensate for the estimated attenuation. The power-adjusted low-speed channels are frequency division multiplexed together to produce an electrical high-speed channel suitable for transmission across the communications system.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2001Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Laurence J. Patent number: 7209660Abstract: An optical communications system includes a receiver subsystem with at least two heterodyne receivers. The receiver subsystem receives a composite optical signal having two or more subbands of information and corresponding tones. An optical splitter splits the composite optical signal into optical signals. Each optical signal includes a subband(s) and corresponding tone. Each heterodyne receiver receives an optical signal. The receiver includes a heterodyne detector coupled to a signal extractor. The heterodyne detector mixes the optical signal with an optical local oscillator to produce an electrical signal which includes a frequency down-shifted version of the subband and the tone of the optical signal. The signal extractor mixes the frequency down-shifted subband with the frequency down-shifted tone to produce a frequency component containing the information.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2000Date of Patent: April 24, 2007Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: Ting K Yee, Peter H Chang

Patent number: 7154914Abstract: Data is transmitted across an optical fiber communications system by splitting an incoming tributary into multiple low-speed data channels, modulating each of these into a stream of symbols (e.g., by using QAM modulation) and then frequency division multiplexing a number of symbol streams into a single high-speed channel to be transmitted across a fiber. The receiver reverses this process. In order to preserve the jitter tolerance for the overal system, reference clocks are used to remove unwanted jitter in the timing of the system.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2001Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Forster Energy LLCInventors: David A Pechner, Laurence J Newell, Mark D Konezny
