Abstract: A wheelchair wheel lock system is provided that can be adapted for either pull-to-lock or push-to-lock operation. The wheel lock system includes a function plate with first and second pivot holes. An operating lever is attached to the function plate, and rotation of the lever causes rotation of the function plate and thereby moves a contact arm into engagement with the wheel of the wheelchair to lock the wheel against movement. The operation of the wheel lock system is changed between push-to-lock and pull-to-lock by adapting the function plate to rotate about either the first pivot hole or the second pivot hole. The operating lever can be attached to the function plate in a variety of orientations, providing added flexibility in the operation of the wheel lock system.

Abstract: A motorized wheelchair rear wheel drive assembly is selectively engageable and disengageable by an occupant to permit the wheelchair to be used in either a motorized mode or an occupant self propelled mode. For each rear wheel a drive motor connects through an axially extending worm gear assembly and rear drive axle to a drive hub. The drive hub is positioned outside of the rear wheel and supports a control handle which in turn controls a pair of locking pins which selectively engage the drive hub or disengage the drive hub from the rear wheel. The drive assembly enables the wheelchair to be folded to a laterally more compact condition.
