Abstract: A method, a portable device and a measuring instrument for standardization of a satellite measuring instrument to a corresponding master measuring instrument are disclosed. The portable device includes a device for containing a reference material, and an information unit for storing information about the reference material and measurements of the reference material on the master measuring instrument. When placed in a satellite measuring instrument, information from the master instrument stored in the information unit of the portable device is transmitted automatically and wirelessly to the satellite instrument and, together with measurements by the satellite instrument of the reference masterial in the portable device, a standardization model for the satellite instrument and the sample type is obtained.

Abstract: A device and a method for combined selection of a sample, grinding of the selected sample and presentation of the sample for an analysis system. The device includes a grinding chamber, a grinding device for grinding said sample in the grinding chamber, and a pressing device for compression of the sample in and output of the sample from the grinding chamber. The device further includes a first chamber opening for input of the sample into the grinding chamber, and a second chamber opening for the output of the sample from the grinding chamber, wherein the first chamber opening is separate from the second chamber opening.

Abstract: A method and device for optical measuring of small particles for analysis of the quality of the particles. A sample-feeding carrier is adapted to take up particle samples in sample holders and transport the particle samples to a place for optical measurement. A mirror-supporting means follows the movement of the carrier and has mirrors matching the sample holders. A device illuminates a particle sample when positioned for optical measurement and a detector, which is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation, records a result of optical measurement of the illuminated particle sample. A mirror reflects the particle sample, so that a mirror image thereof stands essentially still seen from the detector, when a measurement is being recorded, owing to the fact that the mirror image of the particle sample falls on a center axis of the movement of the mirror-supporting means.

Abstract: A process is claimed for the determination of nitrogen content in a nitrogen containing material, said process comprising: a) at least one pre-treatment step, b) at least one distillation step and c) at least one determination step; wherein said distillation step (a) comprises the substeps of: i) diluting a pre-treated sample of a nitrogen containing material with at least one diluting fluid, ii) inputting steam for commencement of steam distillation, and iii) adding at least one alkali compound, whereby the addition of alkali is made 1-60 seconds after commencement of said inputting of steam and said steam distillation and whereby distillate produced during said steam distillation is recovered in an acidic and/or complexing medium.

Abstract: A solvent extraction apparatus which includes a heating plate, a vessel for containing a solvent, an extraction thimble to obtain a sample to be extracted from said vessel and a cooler for condensing evaporated solvent vapors. The cooler is connected to the vessel for containing the solvent, preferably by an adaptor. A lifting rod is provided which passes through the cooler which, at its lower portion, is provided with a drip rim on which the extraction thimble is detachably fixed. The thimble can be moved vertically by the lifting rod and the flow of solvent into and out of the cooler can be regulated by the lifting rod.
