    Abstract: The present invention provides a retaining wall block adapted to receive and retain a geogrid reintorcing material. In one aspect the receiving and retaining structure comprises one or more projections (13,33) provided on a first face of the block and an aperture or recess (14,34) provided on the opposite face of the block. In a further aspect of the inventions the receiving and retaining structure comprises a transverse groove (53) formed in an upper surface of the block. In a yet further aspect, the receiving and retaining structure comprises a transverse slot provided in the rear wall of a block, the slot comprising a groove (62,72) terminating in the body of the block in a cavity (63,73,83) of greater lateral dimension than the groove.
