Abstract: A method for shaping packet switched data traffic between a terminal device of a type including an operating system adapted to execute a plurality of applications and a network resource. The method includes selecting of an allocation policy to allocate access to the network resource between one or more primary applications and other applications and selecting characteristics associated with a primary application. The method examines interactions between one or more applications and the operating system to identify which of a plurality of applications is the primary application and classifies data packets according to their association with the primary application. A step of allocating access to the network resource in accordance with the policy is included.

Abstract: A method in a packet switching system for arbitrating access for incoming channels (100÷109) to an outgoing channel (120) so that each channel is constrained within a minimum bandwidth, a maximum bandwidth, and a defined inter-packed delay range by use of a transferable credit value system, including a channel value for each channel, a master value, and selecting one incoming channel (100) to be permitted to transmit a packet through the outgoing channel (120), upon a transmission from one of the incoming channels (100÷109) to the outgoing channel (120) being permitted, changing the credit for that channel and making a corresponding change in the master value. Channels are eligible to transmit packets while they have a channel value within a specified limit. Channel values are reset when the master value falls outside a specified limit.
Abstract: A method of detecting lie detection including the steps of first conditioning the subject to produce an involuntary physiological response triggered when the subject provides false statements; and secondly asking the subject to state whether each of series of statements presented to the subject are true. As the subject answers, the subject is monitored for the conditioned involuntary response. Detecting whether the subject is providing false statements is based on whether the involuntary response is observed during these answers. A system (19) for lie detection includes a computing device (21), a controlled (40), and at least one conditioning interface (42, 44).
Abstract: A packet switching system including a method for determining if a real time channel with inter-packet delay requirements can be admitted into the system is disclosed. A method and means for scheduling channels to send packets based on these inter-packet delay requirement is also presented. Variations to provide selected jitter requirements on packets are also disclosed.
