  • Patent number: 6519309
Abstract: A spacer grid for PWR assemblies is characterized by curved flow channels between adjacent fuel rods and straight, essentially flat strips connecting opposite side plates of the spacer. The latter strips prevent bowing-out of the side plates during fuel assembly fabrication and during operation in the reactor. Additionally, the spacer grid allows accurate positioning of the fuel rods on a square lattice with a precisely defined pitch, and support of the rods in their spacer cells is such that rod bow will be minimized. The direction of the nozzles on the flow channels has been chosen to promote cross-flow of the coolant through the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6435756
Abstract: In order to provide watertight properties between a spring socket (1) and a release socket (2) for a plug of a push-pull connector, a bellows expansion joint (5) is provided between the spring and release sockets. When the two sockets are spaced apart, the bellows expansion joint is in the rest (non-stressed) position. When the release socket is driven closer to the spring socket, a stress is exerted on the bellows expansion joint (6, 7). This helps to force back the release socket. By this structure, improvements are shown in the vibration resistance and, at the same time, in the watertightness of the plug of a push-pull connector.

  • Patent number: 6422897
Abstract: A shorting contact support for a plug-in projection (5c) in an igniter receptacle, comprising a first shorting bridge (30a) having two resilient contact elements (35a, 36a) connected to one another by an edge (37) of a metal plate (31), and a support housing (9) having an annular base (2) on which two diametrically opposite wings (3, 4) are integrally formed parallel to the insertion direction and form a holder (5) for a plug (6) having sockets (51, 52) for the insertion of contact pins (21, 22) on an igniter receptacle (20). The shorting contact support has a second shorting bridge (30b) which is essentially identical to the first shorting bridge (30a), each wing (3, 4) containing a shorting bridge (30a, 30b), so that at least one bridge (30a, 30b) shorts the two contact pins (21, 22) arranged in one plane on the igniter receptacle (20) when the plug (6) is inserted. In addition, the holder (5) is rotationally symmetrical through 180°.

  • Patent number: 6159049
Abstract: An electrical connector having a housing that includes a conductive piece and a plastic piece, electrical contacts mounted to the housing, and a circuit assembly connected to the contacts. The circuit assembly comprises circuit elements and a lead frame. The lead frame is formed from a bandolier used to carry the contacts and the circuit elements prior to insertion into the housing. One portion of the lead frame may form a ground plane and may be joined to the conductive housing piece. Bandolier index holes may be used for attaching the ground plane portion to posts on the conductive housing piece. An uncut section of the lead frame may form a bridge for grounding a contact. The lead frame may also be mounted onto a ferrite block.

  • Patent number: 4922605
Abstract: A liner (12) substantially smaller than the thickness of the tube plate (2) is inserted into the tube (8) so that, while one of its ends is in a region of the tube (8) inside the tube plate (2) and away from the entry face (2a), the other end of the liner (12) is beyond the exit face (2b) of the tube plate. Diametral expansion and roller expanding of the liner (12) are performed in the position which the latter occupies inside the tube (8).

  • Patent number: 4618471
Abstract: A safety device to be applied to the vertical displacement of, for example, the control rods of a nuclear reactor, comprises the combination of a stator placed on the outside upper part of an impervious, nonmagnetic cylinder within the inside of which a rotor is mounted about its shaft, free in axial translation, with the shaft rotatable with the rotor but fixed in translation, and with the rotation of the shaft transferred to a hollow threaded rod which will transfer rotation to a nut slidable vertically inside the cylinder, supporting the control rods therebelow; the rotor also controlling the opening and closing of a jaw for holding and releasing the hollow threaded rod.

  • Patent number: 4491008
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of ultrasonic measurement of the ratio of the volume of gas present in an enclosure containing a diphase liquid-gas mixture to the volume of the enclosure, or void coefficient. Waves at different frequencies are propagated through the fluid filling the enclosure (1). The propagation times of the waves are measured and the difference between these propagation times is calculated. If the propagation times are identical, it is deduced that all the gas is in the form of a layer surmounting the liquid. The void coefficient is determined from the propagation velocities of the ultrasounds in the gas and the liquid and from the measured propagation time. If the propagation times are different, a part of the gas is in the form of bubbles in the liquid, the void coefficient due to the gas surmounting the liquid and the void coefficient due to the gas bubbles in the liquid are determined separately. The total void coefficient is determined by adding the two values obtained.
