Abstract: Hair care compositions, such as shampoo and conditioner compositions, for use with color-treated hair. The compositions when used, for example, to shampoo or condition color-treated hair, being effective to protect color-treated hair such that, for example, there is minimal adverse effect on the color of the color-treated hair, such as fading. The compositions include a cationic terpolymer of vinylpyrrolidone, dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide, and methacryloylaminopropyl lauryldimonium chloride, quinoa and a first silicone. There is also provided a method of imparting color retention characteristics to shampoos and conditioners by formulating the shampoos or conditioners to include a cationic terpolymer of vinylpyrrolidone, dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide, and methacryloylaminopropyl lauryldimonium chloride, quinoa and a first silicone. Optionally, the hair care compositions can include a second silicone compound.
