Abstract: An audio decoder has an arithmetic decoder for providing decoded spectral values on the basis of an arithmetically-encoded representation and a frequency-domain-to-time-domain converter for providing a time-domain audio representation. The arithmetic decoder selects a mapping rule describing a mapping of a code value onto a symbol code in dependence on a numeric current context value describing a current context state. The arithmetic decoder determines the numeric current context value in dependence on a plurality of previously decoded spectral values. The arithmetic decoder evaluates at least one table using an iterative interval size reduction to determine whether the numeric current context value is identical to a table context value described by an entry of the table or lies within an interval described by entries of the table, and derives a mapping rule index value describing a selected mapping table. An audio encoder also uses an iterative interval table size reduction.

Abstract: More customization and adaptation of coded data streams may be achieved by processing the information signal such that the various syntax structures obtained by pre-coding the information signal are placed into logical data packets, each of which being associated with a specific data packet type, and by defining a predetermined order of data packet types within one access unit. The consecutive access units may correspond to different time portions of the information signal. By defining the predetermined order it is possible, at decoder's side, to detect the borders between successive access units even when removable data packets are removed from the data stream between data stream source and decoder without incorporating any hints into the datastream. Therefore, decoders surely detect the access unit beginnings and endings and are not liable to buffer overflow.

Abstract: A device for detecting a plant includes a two-dimensional camera for detecting a two-dimensional image of a plant leaf having a high two-dimensional resolution, and a three-dimensional camera for detecting a three-dimensional image of the plant leaf having a high three-dimensional resolution. The two-dimensional camera is a conventional high-resolution color camera, for example, and the three-dimensional camera is a TOF camera, for example. A processor for merging the two-dimensional image and the three-dimensional image creates a three-dimensional result representation having a higher resolution than the three-dimensional image of the 3D camera, which may include, among other things, the border of a leaf. The three-dimensional result representation serves to characterize a plant leaf, such as to calculate the surface area of the leaf, the alignment of the leaf, or serves to identify the leaf.

Abstract: A deflection device for a scanner with Lissajous scanning includes a micromirror that oscillates in at least two deflection axes and that includes a frame and a mirror plate that is movably arranged via a suspension mount. The deflection device also includes a control device for generating control signals for a resonant operation of the micromirror in the at least two deflection axes. The suspension mount includes at least one spring connected at one end to the mirror plate and at the other end to the frame. The frequencies of the control signals for the resonant operation of the micromirror are substantially equal in the at least two deflection axes, but differ at least in terms of the predefined scanning repetition rate. The levels of the resonance frequencies of the deflection axes and control signals are determined by a predefined scanning resolution and a predefined scanning repetition rate.

Abstract: A convolution interleaver for processing a codeword derived from an input block of symbols using a redundancy-adding coding, and having more symbols than the input block, wherein the codeword has a sequence of interleaving units, wherein each interleaving unit has at least two symbols, includes an interleaver. The interleaver changes the sequence of interleaving units to obtain an interleaved codeword having a changed sequence of interleaving units. In particular, the order of the symbols within an interleaving unit is not changed by the interleaver. The order of the interleaving units in the codeword among each other or with respect to a previous or subsequent codeword is changed, however.

Abstract: A video frame arithmetical context adaptive encoding and decoding scheme is presented which is based on the finding, that, for sake of a better definition of neighborhood between blocks of picture samples, i.e. the neighboring block which the syntax element to be coded or decoded relates to and the current block based on the attribute of which the assignment of a context model is conducted, and when the neighboring block lies beyond the borders or circumference of the current macroblock containing the current block, it is important to make the determination of the macroblock containing the neighboring block dependent upon as to whether the current macroblock pair region containing the current block is of a first or a second distribution type, i.e., frame or field coded.

Abstract: The following coding scenario is addressed: A number of audio source signals need to be transmitted or stored for the purpose of mixing wave field synthesis, multi-channel surround, or stereo signals after decoding the source signals. The proposed technique offers significant coding gain when jointly coding the source signals, compared to separately coding them, even when no redundancy is present between the source signals. This is possible by considering statistical properties of the source signals, the properties of mixing techniques, and spatial hearing. The sum of the source signals is transmitted plus the statistical properties of the source signals which mostly determine the perceptually important spatial cues of the final mixed audio channels. Source signals are recovered at the receiver such that their statistical properties approximate the corresponding properties of the original source signals. Subjective evaluations indicate that high audio quality is achieved by the proposed scheme.

Abstract: For adding additional data, such as multi-channel extension data, to base data, such as conventional stereo data, a test fingerprint of test data relating to a test time instant of the test data is provided. The test data equals the additional data or the base data or depends on the additional data or the base data in parametric manner. Using the test fingerprint, reference time instant information is determined, which depends on a reference time instant in reference data, the reference data being the conventional stereo data. Finally, the additional data or the base data is manipulated, namely using the reference time instant information and the test time instant information, to obtain manipulated data, by which synchronous reproduction of the data information can be performed. Thus, a robust and flexible possibility for synchronous, especially late extension of base data by additional data is obtained.

Abstract: A method for determining a contour of an object in a digital image includes determining a preliminary object center and determining contour candidate image points. The contour candidate image points are determined as image points on a plurality of paths leading away from a preliminary object center by detecting a change from a first section to a second section on a feature space based on the image point value range of the digital image or by detecting the exceeding of a predetermined strength of a feature change in the feature space, wherein the contour candidate image points have a distance to the preliminary or to an improved object center and are ordered according to a polar angle. Further, the method includes determining zones of neighboring contour candidate image points within which a change of the distance of the contour candidate image points lies above a threshold value and an elimination of contour candidate image points which lie between the zones of neighboring contour candidate image points.
