  • Patent number: 10760233
Abstract: A precast dam structure includes at least two precast segments coupled together via linkages and a flow path structure. The flow path structure defines a flow path having an intake port and a draft port and is associated with at least one of the at least two precast segments. The flow path structure is configured to provide a change in flow direction, either internally or externally, from the at least one of the at least two precast segments.

  • Patent number: 9730431
Abstract: A device for counting animal traffic in an aquatic animal passage system includes chutes positioned across the aquatic animal passage system and a sensor positioned to sense an animal moving through or in the aquatic animal passage system. The chutes and the aquatic animal passage system are formed with precast concrete segments and may include a protective liner or coating coupled to their outer surface to protect animals from contacting the outer surface of the precast concrete segments. The sensors may be integrated with the precast concrete segments forming the chutes. Smart concrete segments may be employed as transducers to create an electric field in the chutes, with impedance sensors coupled to the transducers being responsive to changes to the electric field in the chutes caused by passing animals.

  • Patent number: 9103084
Abstract: Dams are a useful source of energy. An embodiment of a dam according to the present invention includes precast segments configured to be coupled together to form a dam optionally used to generate energy. An embodiment includes encasing an existing dam structure using interconnected precast segments. An underpinning system may penetrate the existing dam structure and be employed to assist in maintaining position of the dam or segmental components. A further embodiment includes encasing a main energy generation component using interconnected precast segments formed from a composite material including electrically conducting fibers, an electric circuit configured to measure and report the electrical resistance using a transmitter or transceiver to a dam stress/strain monitoring server. The electrical circuit may be powered directly or indirectly by available power supplied by the main energy generation component.

Abstract: Unstable ground is found in many situations in many locations around the world and causes such locations to be unsuitable for building without further support or stabilization. Unstable ground, such as landfills, can be used for beneficial purposes as opposed to lying dormant. A segmented ballast base support structure according to an embodiment of the present invention can be configured to support free-standing structures, such as solar power collection systems and wind turbines. The segmented ballast base support structure can be deployed at unstable ground sites without digging or expensive filling stabilization techniques. Segments of the base support structure can be precast at an offsite location and transported to a site in segments and sections, and can then be arranged on-site to form the segmented base support structure. The transportability of the segments of the disclosed segmented base support structure enables offsite manufacturing to be utilized.

Abstract: Solar power and other renewable energy systems are useful for generating electrical energy with no environmental effects. Example embodiments of the present invention provide for mobile transport of power generation systems, such as a solar power energy collection system, that can be transported via a mobile system, such as a truck, trailer, or railway transport system, and positioned anywhere the mobile transport system can travel to provide temporary or permanent energy producing capacity.

  • Patent number: 8414223
Abstract: Dams are a useful source of energy. An embodiment of a dam according to the present invention includes precast segments configured to be coupled together to form a dam optionally used to generate energy. An embodiment includes a spillway extender to prevent upstream or downstream erosion of a riverbed at the dam. An underpinning system may be employed to assist in maintaining position of the dam or segmental components. Solar panel energy generation systems and battery storage may be associated with the segmental dam to store energy and, optionally, produce auxiliary power for subsystems associated with the dam, such as for supporting automated spillway control gate level control or automated gearing system control to control a gear ratio associated with rotating or other moving parts used to convert kinetic energy of water into electrical energy.
