  • Patent number: 4834888
Abstract: A hemodialysis apparatus includes a sterile filter whose outlet, which is usually closed, is connected to a line leading to a discharge outlet in wherein a bypass valve is employed which can be opened at predetermined intervals both during treatment and during flushing operations. The sterile filter has a primary chamber and a secondary chamber. When the bypass valve is opened during treatment, dialysis solution flows out of the primary chamber of the sterile filter and flushes the pyrogens and particles disposed on the membranes of the filter into the discharge. No sterilizating filtration of the dialysis solution takes place through the pores of the membrane because the flow resistance present in the adjoining dialyzer, in conjunction with a degree of clogging of the pores, prevents such a flow. A ventilation means may be provided whereby the bypass circuit of the sterile filter can be ventilated. The bypass circuit may also be employed for a pressure retaining test.

  • Patent number: 4789473
Abstract: A filter comprising a filter housing with an interior within which between two closure members filter membranes in the form of hollow fibers are disposed. Between the hollow fibers a free flow space remains to which are connected two connecting pieces disposed inclined on the housing. Through said connecting pieces blood is supplied to the interior so that a filtration from the outside to the inside into the hollow fibers is possible. This and the arrangement of the connecting pieces gives an extremely favourable flow approach to the hollow fibers so that the blood flow is hardly influenced in its velocity and flow behaviour because in addition to the cross-section of the free flow space is adapted to the cross section of the blood supply line. For making such a filter at least two filters are arranged parallel and spaced apart in a plane, the support surface for the filters being rotatably mounted and the axis of rotation not intersecting any of the two longitudinal axes of the filters.

  • Patent number: 4787890
Abstract: The invention relates to a feeding system (1) for enteral feeding comprising a container (2) preferably constructed as a disposable article for receiving the food. Said container (2) is disposed in a suspension means (3) which is constructed such that the container (2) in the suspended state points with its opening (5) upwardly and assumes a position inclined to the horizontal. As a result when the tubing system (4) is introduced into the container for suppyling the nutrient solution to the patient no leaks can occur because the opening (5) points upwardly so that along the periphery of a piercing tube (17) introduced into the container (12) no solution can drip out. Nevertheless, due to the inclined position of the container (2) and the arrangement of the end of the inserted piercing tube (17) at the lowermost point (6) of the container (2) all the solution can be extracted; for this purpose for the extraction preferably a drip chamber (21) is provided in connection with a tube clamp ( 26).
