  • Patent number: 11295857
Abstract: A connected health system includes an instant user feedback interface that captures meaningful feedback from medical patients, such as dialysis patients, when they are most apt to provide it. The system enables a patient to speak freely with comments or questions about their dialysis experience at the time that the comments or questions arise. Accordingly, the system described herein facilitates and invites the providing of user feedback by voice input, along with relevant treatment and system status information, in a secure way to improve user experience and to help in machine development using simple and easily accessible interface buttons. By providing a conduit for instant user feedback, that may be provided along with relevant treatment and/or system status information that has caused the user feedback, the system described herein may improve the way the patient feels about interactions with the company and their dialysis machines and services.

  • Patent number: 11273243
Abstract: A system includes a dialyzer having a blood side and a dialysate side, a first extracorporeal circuit including one or more first fluid connectors structurally configured to connect the blood side of the dialyzer to the vascular system of a kidney patient, and a second extracorporeal circuit including one or more second fluid connectors structurally configured to connect the dialysate side of the dialyzer to the vascular system of a healthy animal. The present teachings may thus include a system where hemodialysis is performed using a healthy animal (e.g., a person with normal kidney function) to help remove harmful solutes from, and provide helpful solutes to, a kidney patient. In this manner, the healthy animal is “virtually donating” its kidney function to the kidney patient.

The sorbent canister includes inlet and outlet ports that include a threaded interface for connection to inlet and outlet tubes for circulation of dialysate through the sorbent canister. Upon disconnection from a dialysis machine, a pressure relief cap can be threaded onto the threaded interface to seal the fluid in the sorbent canister while allowing for off-gases to be expelled when a pressure within the sorbent canister exceeds a threshold pressure, thereby preventing a rupture in the canister body. In one embodiment, the pressure relief cap includes a deformable insert with a hole formed therein that is closed in an uncompressed state and opened in a compressed state. In another embodiment, the pressure relief cap includes a diaphragm that mates with a feature of the inlet or outlet port.
