Abstract: A mobile application for execution on a handheld computing device stores data regarding connections to public safety answering points with which to share information in an emergency situation and establishes connections with an appropriate public safety answering point upon activation of an emergency button, wherein the connections include voice, text, image and video connections. A user is able to create a list of contacts for a private social emergency response network with which to send previously stored private information in an emergency. In an emergency, the mobile application establishes a platform via which the user and those on the private social emergency response network can share information. The mobile application also sends previously stored private information to those on the list during an emergency.
