Patent number: 6174398Abstract: A method of fabricating the composite metal-and-plastic components of an antiballistic grill for an armored vehicle. Each component comprises a core in the form of a length of structural section with layers of plastic against each side bonded to the core by heat and pressure in a mold comprising two halves. The object of the present invention is simpler and more economical lamination in the fabrication of non-flat work with a metal core. The core is electrically heated to a prescribed processing temperature by regulating a current of electricity, whereby the resulting heat is employed to soften to a prescribed extent adhesive between the core and the layers of plastic to be bonded to it.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1998Date of Patent: January 16, 2001Assignee: Fried Krupp AG Hoesch-KruppInventors: G{umlaut over (u)}nter Dieterich, Karlheinz Piel, Lothar Pleugel

Patent number: 6086122Abstract: An attachment between the frame of a grating in a special-purpose vehicle, an armored vehicle for example, and the lengths of structural section that comprise the grating. The ends of the lengths of structural section are secured against displacement by a plate. When the lengths of structural section have a metal core and a non-metal sheath, the core or part of the core is attached to and can or cannot be detached from the frame by way of the plate. The plate is positioned against the surface of the frame component that faces away from the lengths and is provided with cutouts (6) that provide access to the core of each length and allow the introduction of means (5 or 8) of attachment.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1997Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Fried. Patent number: 6022427Abstract: A method of manufacturing helical springs from steel wire. The springs' skin is thermomechanically hardened by shot peening the unstressed springs followed by thermally destressing them, and shot peening them again. The second shot peening is carried out in at least two steps. The method produces springs that are just as strong as conventional but smaller and lighter in weight. The first one of the steps is a rough shot peening with shot that is coarser than in the second one of the steps which is a fine shot peening was shot at a lower speed than in the first step. This increases compression of the wire's surface and polishes the wire's surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignees: Fried Krupp, Hoesch-KruppInventors: Josef Wienand, Gerhard Mier

Patent number: 5935614Abstract: A method of injection-molding three-layer moldings, especially bottle blanks, having inner and outer layers of a "material A" and of a "material B". Material B can be a material that acts as a barrier against the gases O.sub.2, CO.sub.2, and SO.sub.2, and against water vapor (H.sub.2 O). The method employs a device that comprises at least one mold and at least one flat hot runner. The mold has several cavities and the hot runner has the same number of dies. Material A is supplied to the cavities (1.1) through an annular gap between the inner (2.1) and the outer (2.2) component of each die. Material B is forced into the cavities through a hollow needle (3) that extends through the center of the inner die component by a piston (4) that is integrated into the die and cannot rotate. The needle has a port (6) that opens into it at a right angle and remains open as long as the needle remains advanced, in a closing position, and that is blocked when the needle is retracted.
