Patent number: 4391357Abstract: A coupling is provided in which a coupling member and coupling sleeve of a rotary coupling for coupling a drive transmission to a rolling mill stand input shaft have mating taper threads which provide torsional rigidity and facilitate quick engagement and release. Engagement and release are effected by slowly turning the coupling half by means of the drive transmission while a brake device engages dogs on the coupling half to prevent the latter rotating. The coupling sleeve is flexibly attached to the flange by sheet metal laminate compensating elements but mobility of the sleeve is restricted by a support element on a shaft extension.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1980Date of Patent: July 5, 1983Assignee: Friedrich Kocks GmbH & CompanyInventors: Ali Bindernagel, Helmut Holthoff, Hartmut Diel

Patent number: 4391117Abstract: A rolling mill and method for rolling material having a rectangular, oval or like elongated cross-sectional configuration into rod or wire, has a line of passes of which the first pass is formed by two rollers and the remaining passes are each formed by three rollers, and wherein the first pass deforms the material, whose input cross section has a ratio of the lengths of its major and minor principal axes greater than about 1:2 to an output cross section which is exactly round or a regular polygon, such as square or hexagonal or which deviates from such a geometrical configuration only to an extent such that the ratio of the lengths of the major and minor principal axes of the output cross section does not exceed about 1:2.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1981Date of Patent: July 5, 1983Assignee: Friedrich Kocks GmbH & CompanyInventor: Werner Demny

Patent number: 4382376Abstract: In the reduction of the cross section of wire, rods or bars by rolling, the work material is placed under longitudinal compression in a roughing block and/or in an intermediate block and is only under tension in a finishing block. By this means, the ends of the work material are thinned prior to entry into the finishing block, instead of being thickened as they would be if the work material were under tension in the roughing and/or finishing block. Compensation for this end thinning is effected in the finishing block due to the rolling under tension, so that wastage due to cropped thickened ends is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1981Date of Patent: May 10, 1983Assignee: Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co.Inventors: Hans Brauer, Werner Demny

Patent number: 4347725Abstract: The stand-to-stand transmission ratios between the working sizing passes at the entry end of a rolling block for rolling bars, rods or wire are fixed but are different from one another. This enables an entire range of finished workpiece cross sections to be obtained from a given first pass workpiece entry cross-sectional area, merely by omitting one or more of the working stands and shifting other working stands from one location to another and by changing only the stands of the finishing sizing passes at the delivery end of the block.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1980Date of Patent: September 7, 1982Assignee: Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co.Inventor: Werner Demny

Patent number: 4215855Abstract: A cooling bed for cooling and straightening rods or bars which are delivered hot from a rolling mill as side-by-side conveyor chains provided with projections between which pockets for the articles are defined. Reversal sprocket wheels at the infeed end are interconnected so that the pockets at the infeed end remain accurately in alignment, notwithstanding chain wear and differential expansion under the heat conditions. Reversal sprocket wheels at the discharge end are not drivingly interconnected, at least under normal operating conditions. Individual hydraulic drive motors drive the reversal wheels as shown or separate drive wheels which cooperate with the lower runs of the conveyor chains to keep the upper runs taut individually. The individually driven sprocket wheels are mounted with angular lost motion on a connection shaft to avoid one of the motors being overloaded under exceptional circumstances.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1979Date of Patent: August 5, 1980Assignee: Firma Friedrich Kocks GmbH & CompanyInventor: Theodor Zacharias

Patent number: 4196838Abstract: A method for the manufacture of longitudinal-seam welded tubes of substantial thickness is provided in which a strip of steel is curled to form a longitudinally slit tube and the slit is welded in a longitudinal-seam welding plant and in which the seam-welded tube thus produced is fed into a tandem arranged reducing mill, in which it is rolled in the longitudinal direction of the tube between the stands of the reducing mill without being subjected to longitudinal tension while at the same time its external diameter is reduced. A longitudinal seam-welded tube made by the method is claimed.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1977Date of Patent: April 8, 1980Assignee: Friedrich Kocks GmbH & CompanyInventor: Hermann Moltner
