Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for manufacturing a container, the container being made of paperboard and being formed from at least two elements adhered together. An apparatus for use in manufacturing a container comprises a first inlet connected to a supply of dry steam; a second inlet connected to a supply of hot air; a mixing chamber, the first inlet and the second inlet being fluidly connected to the mixing chamber such that a flow of dry steam from the first inlet mixes with a flow of hot air from the second inlet; and a delivery nozzle fluidly connected to the mixing at least one of said elements.

Abstract: This invention relates to a container comprising and outer shell and an inner lining, to a method of construction of such a container and to components used in the construction of such a container. A container comprises an outer shell made from a first material comprising paperboard, and an inner lining made from a second material comprising a polymeric or metallic material, the lining defining an internal volume for holding a liquid, and the lining being adhered to the shell, wherein, the outer shell includes a line of weakness extending around at least part of the periphery of the shell and defining a first portion of the shell on one side of said line and a second portion of the shell on the other side of said line, the line of weakness permitting the first portion of the shell to be separated from the second portion of the shell, and wherein, the lining is adhered to the shell in said first portion and the lining extends into to said second portion of the shell.

The container also has a main body portion, a neck portion providing an opening of the container and a base on which the container may be supported in use. The outer shell has a first side wall element including a part of the neck portion and a part of the main body portion of the container; a second side wall element including a part of the neck portion and a part of the main body portion of the container; and a third base element including the base of the container. The first, second and third elements are separate elements bonded together to form the shell, and are formed from flat sheet material pressed to form the 3-dimensional shape of the shell.

Abstract: A method of making a container having a separable inner lining and outer shell comprises the steps of: forming an outer shell having a base, a sidewall and a rim surrounding an opening of the shell; preforming a flexible lining, at least a part of the lining conforming to a complete internal shape of the shell; inserting the pre-formed lining into the shell so that a first part of the lining is within the shell and a second part of the lining protrudes from the opening of the shell; adhering the first part to an internal surface of the shell; conforming the second part to an external surface of the shell; and attaching to the lining around said rim a sealing layer covering the opening, the sealing layer being peelable from the lining such that the lining remains intact, and the adhesion between the lining and the internal surface of the shell being such that the lining is peelable from the shell while remaining intact.
