  • Patent number: 6748959
Abstract: The carbon layer forming method starts a film deposition process of a carbon layer by vapor phase deposition after a content of particles having a particle size of 0.5 &mgr;m or more is adjusted in a film deposition system of the carbon layer to 1000 particles/ft3/min or less. The carbon layer forming method by means of a vapor phase deposition technique such as sputtering or CVD ensures that a high-quality carbon layer having significantly reduced pinholes or cracks can be obtained. Since the carbon protective layer obtained by this method has no cracking and delamination due to pinholes and cracks, the thermal head having the carbon protective layer has a sufficient durability to ensure that high reliability is exhibited over an extended period of time to perform thermal recording of high-quality images consistently over an extended period of operation.

  • Patent number: 6607192
Abstract: A sheet feeding method for plate-shaped members is disclosed. In a sucker unit, suction nozzles are move down from respective original positions toward a bottom plate of a cassette at a fixed speed, and time t1 until the bottom plate is detected by a contact sensor, and an amount by which the suction nozzles move, &Dgr;y, until the suction nozzles suction adhere to the bottom plate after the bottom plate is detected by the contact sensor are measured. Subsequently, separation positions of the suction nozzles with respect to the original positions are set based on an interval between the bottom plate of the cassette and separation plates, and an interval required by the photopolymer plate being bent between the suction nozzles and the separation plates at an appropriate curvature. Based on the result of the setting, the photopolymer plate is reliably taken out from the cassette.

  • Patent number: 6299286
Abstract: A recording liquid which is obtained by changing a proportion of mixture of image forming liquid and clear liquid based on an image signal is transported as a continuous flow to an image receiving medium to form an image. An undercoating liquid is superimposed on the recording liquid at the position where the recording liquid meets the image receiving medium to form a bead so that the recording liquid is loaded on the undercoating liquid. The stream line of the undercoating liquid is bent toward the upstream side in the bead and then turned back toward the downstream side to be straightened. Accordingly, the recording liquid superimposed on the straightened undercoating liquid becomes a stable straightened flow without a sinuosity. The generation of a sinuosity of a stream line of the recording liquid is prevented to improve the image quality. Preferably, a supply amount of the undercoating liquid is set constant.

  • Patent number: 6084632
Abstract: Video signals are recorded in such a manner that prints having a high picture quality can be obtained while not interfering with playback of images in the form of a movie. A CCD is controlled in such a manner that exposure is performed at a shutter speed of 1/250 of a second one time in exposures performed a plurality of times in succession and at a shutter speed of 1/60 of a second at other times. The video signal outputted by the CCD is applied to a combining circuit via a CDS, AGC and signal processing circuit for an image sensing system. A PI signal generating circuit outputs a PI signal, which represents inhibition of printing, in the case where exposure is carried out at the shutter speed of 1/60 of a second, and the combining circuit superposes the PI signal upon the video signal, which has been obtained by exposure at the shutter speed of 1/60 of a second, in the vertical blanking interval of this video signal.
