  • Patent number: 7040962
Abstract: An ice blasting apparatus comprises: an ice making device operating a cutting blade to shave off ice freezing on an inner wall of the freezing casing and continuously discharges the shaved ice as flake-shaped ice pellets; an ice mixing tank mixing the ice pellets and water and maintaining the resulting ice slurry at a predetermined concentration with a concentration sensor; and a blast gun blasting the ice slurry. A trimming method is performed on a film insert molding with a film material adhering to a face of a resin molding and extending beyond a periphery edge of the resin molding. A blast gun facing the face with the film adhering to it blasts ice slurry of a required concentration toward the vicinity of the periphery edge of the resin molding to remove the unnecessary portion of the film material extending beyond the periphery edge of the resin molding.

  • Patent number: 6935927
Abstract: A method of a blast process for a junction part between a large-diameter main bore tubularly drilled through an article and a small-diameter branch bore branching off at an angle from the main bore inside the article. A pillar-shaped rod is inserted from a first open end of the main bore to a point close to the junction part before a leading end of the rod blocks the branch bore. A wet slurry made of a mixture of abrasives and water is jetted from a second open end of the main bore into the main bore by use of a squirt gun. The blast of wet slurry is collided with the leading end of the rod and redirected toward the branch bore to drive the abrasives against the junction part located inside the article for removal of burrs therefrom the junction part.

  • Patent number: 6328631
Abstract: Ice grains of uniform grain size are produced through the change of state of supercooled water and the ice grains are mixed into cold water for obtaining an ice slurry of proper concentration. The ice slurry is injected from an injection means to the surface of a workpiece. As the ice grains are fine and uniform and they are injected with water in the state of ice slurry of stable concentration, a surface processing of a soft workpiece susceptible to damage can be performed without causing damage, and the cleaning of the processed surface is performed concurrently with the surface processing, eliminating the necessity of after cleaning. The apparatus is compact and the initial cost is low. The energy needed for preparing the ice slurry is small.

  • Patent number: 5057337
Abstract: A pair of solder coating rolls are disposed horizontally adjacent one another for rotation about parallel horizontal axes, and are spaced apart to define a narrow vertically-oriented nip therebetween for accommodating a lead frame therein. Lower parts of the rolls contact a solder bath, and counter rotation of the rolls carries the solder upwardly on the periphery of the rolls to create a small pool of solder at the upper end of the nip. The lead frame is driven vertically upwardly through the nip, which nip has a minimal dimension greater than the lead frame thickness. The lead frame is driven vertically upwardly at a linear speed which is different from, and preferably slower than, the peripheral speed fo the solder coating rolls. This enables preheating of the surface of the lead frame due to its longer exposure to and contact with the hot solder which coats the periphery of the rolls, thereby improving the wetability of the lead frame surface.

  • Patent number: 4917708
Abstract: A blasting apparatus for cleaning and deburring workpieces having a housing defining a blasting chamber therein. A rotary drum within the chamber is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis. A drive effects rotation of the drum through a plurality of angular steps during each revolution. The drum has a plurality of circumferentially spaced compartments opening radially outwardly thereof. A workpiece holder is positioned within each compartment. A housing opening cooperates with the drum, when stationary, to define a station for permitting loading and unloading of workpieces with respect to the holder associated with one compartment. A gun arrangement effects deburring and cleaning of workpieces mounted on the drum. The gun arrangement includes a plurality of nozzles mounted circumferentially so that each nozzle cooperates with a selected compartment and moves axially therealong for treating the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4738056
Abstract: A process and apparatus for improving the finishing of silicon wafers intended for use as a base plate of an I.C. device. After the wafer has been cut from a silicon crystal and initially ground, then a slurry of water and silicon carbide particles is blasted against the surface to create a mattelike satin finish. This surface is then lapped to provide a mirrorlike finish. To perform the method, the wafer is disposed in a cuplike fixture constructed of resilient material, which fixture defines a cylindrical recess which is of a diameter slightly greater than that of the wafer. The fixture has a support projecting upwardly from the bottom wall and defining an annular drainage passage therearound, which support has the wafer positioned thereon. The blasting media is ejected into the fixture to finish the surface on the wafer, and the slurry drains downwardly around the edge of the wafer into the annular drain passage, and then out through outlet openings which project radially through the wall of the fixture.
