Abstract: A copying apparatus detects as to whether or not an IC chip is present in an original paper. When the IC chip is detected, the copying apparatus reads data from this IC chip. When the read data is additional information, which can be printed as an image, the copying apparatus stops a printing process, and notifies a message indicating that the read data is the additional information to the user and then, waits for an instruction issued by the user. When the user instructs to print the additional information, the copying apparatus prints the image read from the original paper and the additional information read from the IC chip on a printing paper in an output format designated by the user.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for determining and using interaction models. Discourse functions, prosodic features and turn information are determined from the speech information in a training corpus. Statistics, decision trees, rules and/or various other methods are used to determine a predictive interaction model based on the discourse functions, the prosodic features and the turn information. Predictive interaction models are optionally determined for individual users, genres, languages and/or other characteristics of the speech information. The predictive interaction model is useable to predict turns in a dialogue based on the discourse functions and prosodic features identified in the speech information. Speech information is presented and/or received based on the predictive interaction model.

Abstract: An ink jet injection system performs detecting an ink injection condition by ejecting ink droplets so as to form a detecting pattern on a recording medium. When the detecting pattern is formed, the ink droplets are ejected at almost the same position in the state in which the transportation of the recording medium is stopped or a feeding speed of the recording medium is set slower than that during a normal printing operation.
Abstract: In a sheet carrier of an image-forming apparatus, a gate, a carrier guide and a cover are cooled by air exhausted from an exhaust port of a guiding guide and an exhaust hole of the gate, and dew condensation is prevented. A recording paper where a full color toner image is fixed to one side is cooled by blowing the air exhausted from the exhaust port of the guiding guide and the exhaust hole of the gate against the recording paper. A pinch roller and a detection sensor are cooled by blowing the air exhausted from the exhaust port of the guiding guide and the exhaust hole of the gate against the pinch roller and the detection sensor. Since a heat of a fixing device is not absorbed by applying the air to the fixing device, no unnecessary surplus energy is consumed for maintaining a temperature required for fixing.
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes: a display unit that displays a screen including at least one operation target item constituting a target of an operation; a recording unit that records pieces of information depicting operations performed by a user on operation target items displayed on the display unit as pieces of operation history information; and a screen reproducing unit that reproduces screens displayed at points in time at which the respective operations were performed on the basis of the pieces of operation history information recoded in the recording unit.
Abstract: A system that assures a user that two specific devices have exchanged information correctly over an insecure communication channel. In a typical application, the channel would be a wireless network connection and the information would consist of the public keys of the two devices. The exchanged public keys would subsequently be used to secure any further communication between the two devices. The system requires that both devices have an output modality interpretable by a human. One of the devices must have an input modality that can be operated by the user. The input and output modalities can be very simple e.g., they can consist of a button and LEDs. The users would press the button multiple times. On each press, the LEDs on both devices display a color and the user compares the colors and that they are synchronous. A noticeable delay or color difference signifies a security threat.
