Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a transfer section, a guide section, and a plate material. The transfer section transfers an image to a recording material. The guide section guides the recording material toward the transfer section. The plate material is provided on the guide section, and is more easily elastically deformable than the guide section. The plate material guides the recording material, which is transported to the plate material, along a plate surface of the plate material. The plate material is thinner on a downstream side in a transport direction than on an upstream side.

Abstract: A belt-type transport device includes a belt, a pressure unit, a nip forming unit, a belt stretching roller, an inclination controller, a contact unit, and a support unit. The belt is an endless belt, has an outer circumferential surface and an inner circumferential surface, and is to be rotated. The pressure unit is in contact with the outer circumferential surface of the belt. The nip forming unit presses the belt against the pressure unit so as to form a nip through which a recording medium is to be transported. The belt stretching roller is disposed inside the belt and stretches the belt. The inclination controller controls inclination of the belt stretching roller. The contact unit is provided along a width direction of the belt and is in contact with the inner circumferential surface of the belt. The support unit supports the contact unit such that the contact unit is able to follow inclination of the belt which is changed due to the inclination of the belt stretching roller.

An outermost surface layer of the electrophotographic photoreceptor contains fluorine-containing resin particles and a fluorine-containing graft polymer having a fluorinated alkyl group. In an infrared absorption spectrum of the fluorine-containing graft polymer, a ratio of a peak area in a wavenumber range of from 1,020 cm?1 to 1,308 cm?1 to a peak area in a wavenumber range of from 1,673 cm?1 to 1,779 cm?1 is 2.7 or more and 4.8 or less.
Abstract: Recent technical advances have expanded the breadth, scope, and affordability of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems. More people can use VR and AR systems than ever before. However, hand-held physical controls for these systems have not made similar advances yet. For this reason, it remains difficult for developers to create applications that take advantage of the full range of human abilities. In this proposal, we describe a system and method for combining off-the-shelf smartwatches with a set of inexpensive grips or sheaths to control VR/AR systems. With our approach, all of the computation and power for the controller derive from the smartwatch unit, allowing the grips to take almost any form, and allowing developers and designers to integrate a much wider array of interaction styles into their applications.

Abstract: A system and method that extend the protections provided by the existing state-of-the-art to provide location-aware two-factor authentication for authenticating users of computer systems. There are many potential use cases where location-aware two-factor authentication could be of value. For instance, for purposes of access to critical business documentation, such as intellectual property, financial data, sales data for publicly traded companies, and personal medical information are all heavily protected information artifacts in most organizations. Providing controls to insure this information is only accessed in secure, trusted locations could greatly reduce the potential of inappropriate information access.

Abstract: An image forming unit includes an image carrier, a developer carrier, a development housing, and a guide member. The image carrier forms an electrostatic latent image. The developer carrier is in contact with the image carrier while rotating about a rotation axis and facing the image carrier to develop the electrostatic latent image. The development housing accommodates a developer and rotatably supports the developer carrier at one end with an opening portion that is open to the image carrier. The development housing includes an agitation path in which the developer is agitated and a feed path through which the developer is fed to the developer carrier.
Abstract: A paper transport device includes: a paper transport path that includes plural pairs of transport units provided in a direction intersecting with a direction of transport of paper, and transports paper in a predetermined direction; an opening and closing unit that is opened and closed to expose a part of the paper transport path; and a guide unit that has a guide surface on one side of the paper transport path and is rotatably supported about a rotation shaft between a guide posture for guidance of the paper and an opening posture for opening of the guide surface through rotation from the guide posture, when the opening and closing unit is opened.
Abstract: Systems and methods to analyze a person's social media photos or videos, such as those posted on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. and determine properties of their social life. Using information on the number of people appearing in the photos or videos, their ages, and genders, this method can predict whether the person is in a romantic relationship, has a close family, is a group person, or is single. This information is valuable for generating audiovisual content recommendations as well as for advertisers, because it allows targeting personalized advertisements to the person posting the photos. The described methods may be performed (and the advertisements or other content may be selected for recommendation) substantially in real-time as the user accesses a specific online resource.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a searching unit, an identifying unit, and an extracting unit. The searching unit searches for multiple cells from a table having cells arranged in a matrix. The multiple cells contain character strings that at least partially match a character string input as a key by a user. The identifying unit identifies a header range expressing a header row and a header column in the table based on distribution of the multiple cells found by the searching unit. The extracting unit extracts values corresponding to key cells by regarding the multiple cells included in the header range identified by the identifying unit as the key cells.
Abstract: A fixing device includes a heating unit, a pressure unit, a moving unit, and a controller. The heating unit is configured to heat a toner on a recording medium. The pressure unit is configured to transport the recording medium while sandwiching the recording medium in a nip that the pressure unit and the heating unit form. The moving unit is configured to change a nip state of the pressure unit with respect to the heating unit by moving the heating unit or the pressure unit. The controller is configured to, when plural recording media are transported continuously, control the moving unit so that the moving unit moves the heating unit or the pressure unit in a separation direction so as to reduce a nip width at a recording medium interval between the recording media.
