Abstract: A recording medium controller detects the type of the record format of a recording medium, and sends detection signals to a CPU. The CPU judges whether the record format is suitable for high-speed recording or not. In a case of a general-purpose record format, the CPU detects the presence or absence of existing data in the recording medium. When the existing data is present, whole existing data is stored from the recording medium into an evacuated data area of an internal memory. Upon completing the evacuation of existing data, the recording medium controller reformats the recording medium. Then, moving image data is recorded on the reformatted recording medium. Upon completing the record of whole moving image data, existing data is reconstructed in the recording medium.

Abstract: A solid-state image pickup element is mounted on a digital camera. The solid-state image pickup element has: first color pixels which detect an amount of incident light of a first color of the three primary colors; second color pixels which detect an amount of incident light of a second color; third color pixels which detect an amount of incident light of a third color; and luminance detection pixels which are adjacent to the color pixels, respectively, and which detect luminance information. In the digital camera, when data of a reduced image in which the resolution is more reduced than the resolution of all the pixels of the solid-state image pickup element are to be produced, data of each of the color pixels (R, G, B), and data of one or more of the luminance detection pixels (Y) which are adjacent to the color pixel are added together. A signal processing is applied to the added data to reproduce a photographed image.
Abstract: Color reproduction ranges for images of subjects taken in the light of plural light sources each having plural color temperatures are previously stored. First, a predetermined chromatic characteristic of an input image is analyzed, thereby determining whether the image needs white balance correction or not. If the image is determined to need white balance correction, a color reproduction range close to the color distribution of the image is selected from among the color reproduction ranges previously stored, and white balance correction adapted for a color temperature associated with the color reproduction range is performed.
Abstract: When a face image of a character in an image represented by image data fed to a mask data creating apparatus is detected, face image areas of the detected character are respectively extracted by different two types of processing. An appropriate degree is calculated for each of the face image areas extracted by the two types of extraction processing. The face area for which the higher relevance factor is calculated is used, to create mask data.
