The device also includes a control unit configured to extract the acceleration in the lateral direction of the elevator car detected by the position detecting unit from the storage unit. The control unit also controls the drive unit so as to adjust the pressing force of the guide unit against the guide rail to a pressing force that is derived from at least the extracted acceleration in the lateral direction of the elevator car.

The position detector includes a magnetic body 5 fixed to the mover 3. One or two or more coils are selected and a voltage is applied to the selected coil while a current or a voltage induced in a coil adjacent to the selected coil is measured, and the position of the magnetic body 5 that changes in response to the position of the mover 3 is determined based on the measured current or the measured voltage.

The apparatus prohibits the elevating machine from starting operating and interrupts power supply to the power generation braking resistor (13) if the DC stage voltage of the inverter (4) has a ripple quantity of a set value or more when the elevating machine is being stopped. Alternatively, the apparatus commands the elevating machine to stop operating and interrupts power supply to the power generation braking resistor (13) if the DC stage voltage of the inverter (4) during regenerative operation is a reference value or less when the elevating machine is in operation.
