  • Patent number: 6343884
Abstract: A printer includes a paper roll holder holding a roll of paper, a paper feed path guiding the paper from the paper roll holder, a printing head provided on a portion of the paper feed path for printing on the paper, and a cutter disposed on the paper feed path between the paper roll holder and the printing head for cutting the unraveled paper roll. A method for loading a paper roll to a printer includes the step of cutting the unraveled paper roll at a position upstream of the printing head, before the edge of the paper driven reaches a position downstream of the printing head. By positioning the cutter upstream of the printing head and cutting the paper before the forward edge of the paper moves downstream of the printing head, the printing head and a platen roller can be kept free of any dirt adhering to the paper.

  • Patent number: 6270614
Abstract: A method for fabricating a carrier tape having a row of pockets, including forming carrier tape sections by injection molding so that each of the carrier tape sections has at least one pocket for accommodating an article therein, and joining the carrier tape sections in the form of a tape. The first carrier tape section is first injection molded, and the second carrier tape section is then injection molded such that one side of the first carrier tape section is in contact with one side of the second carrier tape section. A further carrier tape section is then injection molded such that one side of the second carrier tape section is in contact with a side of the further carrier tape section, whereby the carrier tape sections are successively joined together.

  • Patent number: 6266046
Abstract: A pointing device for moving a display pointer by tilting a center shaft including a magnet and using Hall elements fixed near the magnet. The center shaft is sustained by a pivot sustainer fixed on a central axis of the device, and the tilting movement of the center shaft is changed to movement made along the central axis by a movement converting mechanism using spring force, for moving the magnet back on the central axis when the center shaft is freed from tilting.

  • Patent number: 6257782
Abstract: A key switch comprising a base, a key top arranged above the base, a pair of link members interlocked to each other and operatively engaged with the base and the key top to support the key top above the base and direct the key top in a vertical direction, a switching mechanism for selectively opening and closing an electric circuit in connection with a vertical movement of the key top. Each of the link members includes a sliding portion slidably and shiftably engaged with either one of the base and the key top. At least one elastic member is disposed between at least one of the link members and either one of the base and the key top with which the sliding portion of each link member is engaged. The elastic member exerts biasing force, relative to a displacement or shifting amount of the sliding portion, onto at least one of the link members in a direction different from, e.g., substantially orthogonal to, the vertical shifting direction of the key top.

  • Patent number: 6241555
Abstract: An internal shelled connector, mounted on electric equipment having a grounded chassis panel, for mating with an external cable connector. The connector is encapsulated by a conducting shell for electrostatic shield, except at an opening for receiving the external connector through a corresponding window of the panel. A contact, formed on the shell maintains pressure on a back surface of the panel to ground the shell. The contact may be a flange formed at a tip of a blade spring formed integrally continuous with the conducting shell. The flange maintains a persistent electric contact with the panel, even if the panel and the mounted shelled connector are partially separated due to mechanical stress, when plugging in or pulling out the external cable connector.
