Abstract: A rigid drilling stabilizer having outwardly extending ribs is slidably received over a tubular member. A plurality of tapered slip segments are located around the tubular member and within and near each end of the rigid main body of the stabilizer. An end cap is threadedly engagable within each end of the rigid main body. Each slip segment has an inwardly projecting rib and adjacent recess which conform to the corresponding annular recess and rib on the end caps. As an end cap is threadedly engaged to the rigid main body of the stabilizer, the tapered slip segments are urged axially inwardly against a conforming tapered surface within the rigid main body. The slip segments are wedged against the rigid main body and against the tubular member thereby locking the stabilizer to the tubular member.
Abstract: The device for closely securing two insulator segments around a support member includes a resilient brace secured to and connecting the spaced apart insulator segments, a pair of converging upper locking surfaces and contiguous diverging lower surfaces on the insulator segments. A locking bar having a top and a pair of converging sides is conformingly inserted within the brace and upper locking surfaces in order to mechanically secure the insulator segments around the support member. A refractory mortar is applied to the interior of the locking plug and the diverging lower surfaces in order to protect the locking plug from the furnace heat. The arrangement permits the insulator segments to be locked at a single point around the support member.
Abstract: A fiber adhesive is provided which is a mixture of sodium silicate and an acrylic resin, as well as a method for preparing the adhesive and spraying a mixture of the adhesive and the fiber.
