  • Patent number: 6032699
Abstract: A secondary containment system for containing fuel leaks or leaks of other environmentally hazardous fluids includes a containment chamber and a detection system for detecting leaks. The containment system includes a fluid-carrying inner pipe and a containment pipe surrounding the inner pipe with an interstitial space being defined between the two pipes for containment of leaks. The interstitial space is pressurized with an inert fluid at a constant pressure greater than the pressure of the fluid flowing through the inner fluid-carrying pipe. Monitoring of the pressure of the inert fluid in the interstitial space triggers an alarm indicating that a leak has occurred. The location of the leak can be determined by the use of multiple pressure sensors. The containment pipe is reenforced to withstand pressures of at least 75 psi.

  • Patent number: 5793293
Abstract: A temperature sensing system for over-heat detection includes a temperature sensing cable, interface unit and termination unit. The interface unit is configured to issue interrogation, communication and power signals to the termination unit through the temperature sensing cable. During normal operation issuance of the interrogation signal results in no reflection pulses, as the signal is dissipated through the termination resistance in the termination unit. When an over-heat, short circuit or open circuit condition exists, a reflected pulse is detected by the interface unit and this information is used to determine the type and location of the condition. The interface unit is also configured to supply power to the termination unit which in turn is stored in the termination unit to power its operations, including setting of the resistor values. The termination unit is used as an instrument of calibration in the subject system.

  • Patent number: 5580103
Abstract: O-ringless coupling device including a pair of junction elements for attachment to the ends of flow lines to be connected and a coupling nut. One of the elements is provided with a coupling face having at least one annular groove formed therein circumscribing the fluid passageway. The sidewalls of the groove or grooves are angularly inclined relative to each other so that the width of the groove decreases with depth. The opposing face of the second junction element is provided with an annular rib, the transverse thickness of which is adapted to mate with the opposing groove of the first element such that when the nut is used to draw the two junction elements together, the rib mates with the groove and forms a seal therebetween. Preferably, the distal extremity of the rib is narrower than the proximal extremity and is of a dimension such that the walls of the annular rib mate with the walls of the annular groove such that coupling pressure wedges them together forming pressure seals at the engaging sidewalls.
