Abstract: A terminal member of a storage battery and an annular member surrounding the terminal member are bonded together hermetically through an annular bonding material member which comprises at least two annular bonding material members spaced apart from each other by at least one annular space which is formed in the middle of the depth of the through opening of the annular member in which the terminal member is inserted.
Abstract: A cover apparatus for a monoblock storage battery in which a case-shaped cover plate is provided on its reverse surface with a common exhaust passage which is formed between mutually facing walls and is covered with a covering wall and also with baffle walls so disposed outside respective ventilation openings made in the facing wall or walls as to leave respective gaps therebetween, and the respective gaps are covered with a covering wall for obstructing gas generated in cell chambers from flowing directly into the common exhaust passage.
Abstract: A grid base plate and its method of manufacture comprising intermittently conveying a thin elongated metallic sheet longitudinally in one direction through successive first, second and third stations, the sheet being stopped in each of the stations between successive conveying steps. In the first station, the sheet is bent to form a peripheral upwardly projecting portion in a frame region surrounding an inner grid region. In the second station, a plurality of openings are punched in the grid region and in the third station, the sheet is punched along an outer peripheral edge surface to separate the base plate from the sheet. The upwardly projecting portion forms a space with the grid region which is filled with an active material of a thickness determined by the height of the upwardly projecting portion. The upwardly projecting portion has an outer bend region with an end surface constituting a peripheral edge of the frame which faces laterally outwards and is disposed vertically.
Abstract: The alkaline storage battery employs a metallic hat shaped terminal closure which has a piercing needle as well as a puncturable metallic diaphragm positioned below the piercing needle. The needle is fixed by caulking at its peripheral edge portion to a edge of the closure. A comparatively thick and hard metal plate is placed on the inner surface of the diaphragm and is applied to an open portion of a tubular metallic container which has a battery element. A peripheral edge portion of the closure, the diaphragm and the metallic plate are clamped in airtight relationship through a packing between the caulked end portion and an inner annular step portion of the metallic container of the battery. A lead wire extends from one polarity electrode of the battery element and is connected to a central portion of the metallic plate.
Abstract: A float type metal-air battery having an air chamber covered by an air pervious, water repellent membrane is provided with a protector lid to enclose the membrane. The lid includes at least one air intake opening. Shelter plates are interposed between the openings and the membrane to thereby prevent water entering through the openings from contacting a substantial portion of the membrane.
