  • Patent number: 6676641
Abstract: A hypodermic syringe includes a barrel with a plunger assembly slidably extending therein. The plunger assembly includes an outer plunger and an inner plunger telescoping together with a bungee resisting extension of the assembly. The inner and outer plungers may be locked in the extended position with the bungee in tension. A seal stop is located at the seal end of the plunger assembly and holds an annular seal in radial extension sealing against the internal sidewall of the barrel. A luer hub assembly is fixed at the needle end of the barrel. A plunger cap may be advanced after injection to rotate the plunger assembly. Such rotation engages a probe on the end of the plunger assembly with the luer hub, disengages the seal stop to release the annular seal, engages the seal stop with the luer plunger assembly causing release of the luer hub assembly from the barrel and releases the engagement between the outer plunger and inner plunger.

  • Patent number: 6551288
Abstract: A safety-sheathed blood sampling needle for use with a standard vacutainer. The needle is housed in a protective hollow body and held in place with a non-tensioned elastic band. The needle may be extended outside the cover for use without removing the cover assembly from the needle, and may be locked into the use position with one hand. Moving the needle into the use position tensions the elastic band. After the sample is taken, the needle is unlocked and retracted back into the cover by the elastic band. Upon such retraction, the element used to extend the needle is either concealed or disconnected to prevent accidental reuse of the needle.

  • Publication number: 20030036732
Abstract: A safety shield for a needle assembly which includes a cover, a mount and a hinge forming a shield body. The shield body defines a cavity in which a needle assembly having a needle and a luer hub is positioned. The mount includes a socket for receipt of the luer hub while the cover includes a retainer for coupling with the needle assembly. A hinge includes a living hinge between the cover and the mount. A tab encloses one end of the mount. Both the cover and the tab are associated with the mount by means of frangible webs to define a sealed body. A flexible tear strip extends over the cavity to fully seal the body.

  • Patent number: 6050977
Abstract: An improved syringe of the type having a hollow body which is closed at one end by an injection means and is open at the other end, the open end receives an elongated plunger means which moves through the hollow body and forces the contents of the body through the injection means. The improvement is comprised of an elastic member which retracts the injection means into a protective covering.
