Abstract: A method and apparatus for secure communications between an access point and a station in a wireless network is provided. The station receives a first message from the access point in the wireless network, the first message includes a first hashed service set identifier (SSID) generated by the access point by performing a first hash function on an SSID associated with the access point. The station generates a second hashed SSID by performing the first hash function on an SSID known by the station, determines whether the second hashed SSID matches the first hashed SSID. When the second hashed SSID matches the first hashed SSID, the station sends a second message to the access point.

  • Publication number: 20140334320
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for implementing network adaptation schemes, including small cell on/off adaptation and transmission power control. In an embodiment method for supporting network adaptation, a network component receives a discovery reference signal (DRS) from a network controller that is in a switch-off transmission mode. The network component then performs measurements according to the DRS, and reports the measurements to a network associated with the network controller. In return, the network component receives a radio resource control (RRC) signaling from the network. The RRC signaling includes configuration information allowing a connection between the network component and the network controller. The network component then connects with the network controller in accordance with the configuration information.

  • Publication number: 20140334296
Abstract: Selectively ignoring congestion conditions may allow for more efficient transmission control protocol (TCP) communication in instance where reducing the transmission rate for a flow will not meaningfully mitigate congestion in the network or is otherwise undesirable. By way of example, congestion conditions may be ignored when a specific type of traffic flow is being communicated (e.g., short flows, high priority flows, etc.), when a traffic flow is being communicated at a low transmission rate, when a traffic flow is destined for certain type of network (e.g., a wireless network, etc.), or during any other situation in which reducing the transmission rate is undesirable. In some networks, a transmission rate is maintained until a certain number of duplicate ACKs are received (e.g., three duplicate ACKs, etc.) in order to ensure that congestion is indeed present before reducing quality of service (QoS).

  • Publication number: 20140328242
Abstract: Embodiments are provided to enable concurrent uplink transmissions from multiple Wi-Fi stations (STAs) to one or more access points (APs) using Interference Alignment (IA). In an embodiment, the STAs broadcast, to one or more APs, beamforming reports including channel estimation information for downlink. The one or more AP then performs channel estimation using the beamforming reports, and selects at least some of the STAs. The AP also computes beamforming information for IA of uplink transmissions between the selected STAs and sends, to the selected STAs, the beamforming information. The beamforming information is piggy-backed over downlink data packets to the selected STAs. Each selected STA then sends an uplink data frame concurrently with one or more other uplink data frames from one or more other selected STAs to the AP. The uplink data frames are configured for concurrent uplink transmissions according to the beamforming information for IA.
