    Abstract: A method is disclosed for modifying an electric arc furnace to include oxy-fuel burners to assist in the melting of scrap metal by forming an endless melt trench in the scrap metal. Methods of melting scrap metal using an endless melt trench in such a furnace are also disclosed.
