Patent number: 7162904Abstract: A method for producing a bung for a metal cask that does not require a conventional collar and seal, and that simplifies the operations for forming the bung. The method disclosed in the present application includes the following steps. First, a prestamping operation creates a preforming dome in the wall of the cask such that a cuvett is formed. Second, an approximately cylindrical shaft is formed by stamping and thus puncturing the wall of the cask at the location of the bung. Third, the protruding edge of the shaft is folded down the to form an external rolled edge. Fourth, encircling the shaft with a rigid ring constituted by at least two annular sections such that the metal does not tear during the formation of the threads. Finally, the method of the present invention includes the step of implementing a roller threading head to form internal threads in the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2002Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Gallay S.A.Inventors: Jean-Claude Carayon, Lucien Brun

Patent number: 5711974Abstract: The invention concerns a press for blow-molding. This press (10) comprises a frame (11) on which there are mounted two movable plates (12, 13), each supported a half-mold (14, 15) and actuated by a mechanism for opening and closing the mold, which is formed of the two half-molds. Each of the movable plates is attached to a beam mounted on two axles (19, 20) so that it slides along these axles in opposite directions. The opening mechanism essentially consists of an actuator, two transmission blocks (29) and two pairs of connecting rods (33) connected to said movable plates. When the actuator drives the transmission blocks (29) in the direction of arrow A, the rods cause the mold to close. When the transmission block turns in the direction of arrow B, displacement of the rods causes the mold to open. The invention has applications for high speed molding presses in which the mold must be opened in rapid cycles.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: Jean Gallay S.A.Inventor: Dominique Poncet

Patent number: 5518105Abstract: Process and device for conveying objects on transport pallets along a circuit by altering the spacing (e, E) between the objects in order to pass through at least one work station (2, 3). The spacing is altered by longitudinally separating the pallets (4) in order to pass from a first interval, which can be non-existent, to a second interval (X) which can be adjusted. For this purpose, a station (7) is provided which laterally transfers groups of pallets (29, 39, 31, 32) between two sections of parallel tracks (5, 6). The groups are transversally separated stepwise by a ram (17), the pallets of a group (30) are then separated by engaging elements (22, 23) and driven together by a comb mechanism (26). Application in manufacturing, assembly or processing plants using pallet conveying mechanism, especially for the manufacture of containers blow-moulded from preforms.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1994Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Assignee: Jean Gallay S.A.Inventors: Gilles Richard, Bernard Vidonne

Patent number: 4784282Abstract: A method of seaming a preformed end closure to a preformed container body of a drum or the like for forming a seam of reduced radial projection relative to the sidewall of the container body. At the start of seaming the end closure is in driving engagement with a rotating chuck and flanges of the end closure and container body are in overlying relation. The skirt of the end closure is radially spaced from the sidewall of the chuck and driving engagement therebetween is effected in the annular curved connecting zone between the skirt and recessed transverse central portion of the end closure. The skirt flares from the central portion to the flange thereof and is preferably at least in part frustoconical or has an annular step. The sidewall of the container body is centered on the skirt of the end closure and is spaced a radial distance from the chuck sidewall substantially greater than the thickness of the sheet metal of the end closure of the skirt.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Gallay S.A.Inventors: Lucien F.
