  • Patent number: 4228488
Abstract: The luminaire raising and lowering system includes a mast head in which a plurality of sets of pulleys are located. A carrier ring containing a number of lighting fixtures is suspended from the top head mast by a plurality of cables associated with respective ones of said sets of pulleys. Those cables are connected to a main winch cable through intermediate linkage means which compensate for differences in the length of said plurality of cables and enable the carrier effectively to "float". Means are also provided to monitor the tension on the main winch cable thereby preventing accidents due to undue slackness of the main winch cable or mispositioning of the same on the winch reel. Four cable and three cable systems are disclosed. Novel latching means are provided to take the load off of the suspension cables when the carrier is at the top of the pole in normal use.

  • Patent number: 4149230
Abstract: A plurality of cables having respective first ends attached to selected portions of a carrier for lights or the like pass over pulleys in the mast head atop a high pole, their other ends being coupled internally of the pole to a winch which winds the cables to raise and lower the carrier for maintenance purposes from its normal highest position. At the latter position latching members on the carrier engage corresponding latching members on the mast head and the latches normally provide the principal suspending support for the carrier. As a safety measure, the ends of the cables coupled to the carrier are provided with signals visible from the ground indicating when the various latching means have been properly engaged.

  • Patent number: 4148456
Abstract: An articulated mounting device for mounting an object such as traffic signals, signs or the like on vertical or horizontal poles or masts comprises a central apertured plate for attachment to the bracket holding the traffic signal, a first plurality of substantially identical pivotal links releasably coupled to one another and to one side of the central plate, and a second plurality of substantially identical pivotal links releasably coupled to one another and to the other side of the central plate, and two terminal portions respectively connected to the ends of said first and second pluralities not connected to the central plate for releasably coupling the ends of the device together around the pole or mast.

  • Patent number: 4095381
Abstract: The assembly comprises a spun metal lower pole terminal portion having a plurality of apertures formed toward its lower edge. The terminal portion is placed over a concrete slab or other appropriate base having a plurality of spaced upstanding bolts protruding therefrom. The apertures are large enough to enable the installer to insert a special clamp through each aperture. The clamp has a bifurcated end portion which straddles one of the bolts whereas its other end portion protrudes somewhat through the aperture and has a portion in a vertical plane which acts to prevent lateral movement of the lower terminal portion. The installer then screws nuts over the bifurcated portion and the increased downward pressure is transmitted to a number of protuberances formed on the lower surface of the clamp which act to crush any small pebbles or solid aggregate appearing on the upper horizontal surface of the concrete slab.

  • Patent number: 4010925
Abstract: A signal mounting assembly comprising first and second rigid, generally J-shaped tubular members each having a generally curved end portion attached to a generally straight portion. The cross-section of the second member is slightly larger than the cross-section of the first member so that the straight portion of the first member can be slid into the corresponding portion of the second member. The second member also has adjustable means for engaging and locking the first member when the two members are assembled together to the desired distance between their respective curved ends. In one form, the curved end portions include a straight terminal part in the form of a truncated cylinder which is joined to a correspondingly angled curved part. In another form, the curved portion includes a generally straight part which is terminated by an elbow attached to it.

  • Patent number: 3977641
Abstract: A hanger fitting usually made of metal includes two spaced, substantially parallel and planar rigid portions joined by at least two transverse portions. The planar portions have a first pair of threaded apertures formed generally perpendicular to the planes adapted to be engaged by a first corresponding pair of set screws for engaging a tongue or other member to which it is to be mounted. The transverse portions include a second pair of threaded apertures disposed generally transverse to the first pair and being adapted to be engaged by a second corresponding pair of set screws. Both pairs of set screws engage the tongue to which the fitting is to be mounted thereby to prevent movement of the fitting with respect to said member in two mutually perpendicular directions. The parallel portions also have a lower part adapted to be coupled to a signal assembly, or the like.
