  • Publication number: 20120085029
Abstract: A sensing assembly for sensing a body part in a window opening or a boot opening is described. The sensing assembly includes first and second electrically conductive members and electrically oscillating means for applying an electrically oscillating signal to the second electrically conductive member. The electric field generated by the applied signal is concentrated in the opening region, and if a body part is within the opening closing movement of the window or hoot is halted.

  • Publication number: 20100263293
Abstract: A sealing, trimming or guiding strip (15) is shown for supporting a pane of window glass (52) in a frame (22,24,25) carried by the rear door in a vehicle body in the region of the C-pillar of the vehicle. The strip (15) is made of extruded material (16) defining a channel (18) which embracingly grips a flange (20) which is part of the frame of the window. The extruded material (16) is extended to form a limb (36) which supports a lip (46) contacting one surface of the window pane (52). On the opposite side of the channel (18), the extruded material (16) is extended to provide sealing lips (26) which press against a bodywork panel (28) forming the C-pillar. The reinforcing carrier (60) is embedded in the channel-shaped extruded material (16) to strengthen the latter's grip on the flange (20).

  • Publication number: 20100001550
Abstract: A cross-piece (16) for dividing the window frame carried by a vehicle door (8) into a small part for receiving a fixed pane of window glass (54) and a large part for receiving a vertically slidable pane of window glass (56) defines two oppositely facing channels (52, 53). Channel (53) receives the slidable pane of window glass (56) and is formed by an extruded sealing profile (58). The extruded sealing profile (58) is mounted in rigid division bar (74) which extends between the channels (52,54). The assembled sealing profile (58) and division bar (74) are then placed in a mould with a fixed pane of window glass (54) during which the division pillar (92) is formed by a moulding operation. This moulding operation moulds the division pillar (92) to the fixed pane of window glass (54), the division bar (74), and also to the extruded sealing profile (58) at regions (98,100).

  • Publication number: 20090021044
Abstract: A sealing or guiding assembly for sealing or guiding a corner of a closure member such as a window (109) for an opening is disclosed. The sealing or guiding assembly is attached to a frame (8) comprising panels (22,24). Strips (91) of flexible material extend towards and meet at the apex of the corner and are shaped to receive the closure member (109) at the corner and are adapted to be supported by a corner support which forms part of the frame (8). A flap (170) of flexible material is joined to the strips (91) in the region of the corner and bridges across the corner between the strips (91). The strips include inner lip (102) and outer lip (103). The joins (160) and (162) between the moulded flap (170) and the (preferably extruded) material of the strips (91) is obscured from view by the lips (102) and (103).

  • Publication number: 20090000205
Abstract: A join-free sealing strip 1 is disclosed for fitting to the window frame (1) of a vehicle door (5). This sealing strip has embedded therein a slotted carrier. The carrier is stretch bent (or otherwise treated) at regions L5M where there is a sharp corner to increase the rigidity of the strip (1) in these regions. At a position (O) between these regions the carrier is arranged to be relatively less rigid and to be relatively easily extendible and/or compressible. The strip (1) can be simply fitted to the door frame (3) due to the rigid sharp corner regions L5M. The relatively less rigid region (O) between the corner regions allows variations in the dimensions between different door frames (3) to be accommodated. A procedure for avoiding indentations in the flexible material of the strip (1) being visible at positions corresponding to the locations of the slots in the carrier (i.e. avoiding carrier read-through) is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080191517
Abstract: The invention relates to a sealing, trimming or guide strip (15) for the window of a motor vehicle, comprising a continuous loop arranged around the fixed triangular window (11) of the vehicle and an additional loop arranged around the displaceable main window (9) of the rear door of the vehicle. This seal comprises an extruded section (19) in order to maintain the pleasant optical appearance of the vehicle exterior. A section of the extruded material (19) is replaced by formed material that is formed on the fixed triangular window (11). The formed material comprises a recess in order to engage the extruded part and thereby connecting the extruded part mechanically to the formed material and the fixed triangular window (11).

  • Patent number: 7316447
Abstract: An integrated windshield cowl and seal assembly includes a body of a rigid thermoplastic material and upper and lower forward and lower rear resilient seals bonded to the body. The seals may be either bonded by material compatibility or by mechanical, interlocking or other mechanisms. The cowl assembly according to the present invention significantly reduces the number of parts when compared to prior art assemblies. The cowl and seal assembly may also include fender closeouts which extend to the adjacent inner surfaces of the fenders and seal thereagainst.

  • Publication number: 20070164473
Abstract: A method of forming a sealing or mounting strip on the periphery of a vehicle door 4 is disclosed. The method includes providing a fixed extrusion device 15 for producing an extruded sealing or mounting strip, moving the door 4 with respect to the fixed extrusion device 15, while operating the extrusion device 15 to produce the extruded sealing or mounting strip, such that the sealing or mounting strip 10 is formed along a desired path 10 on the door 4. The door 4 is mounted in a frame 27 which clamps the door 4 around the door's edge. The frame 27 is movable by any suitable means, such as by a robot typically used in automated vehicle fabrication plants. By making use of the frame 27 and movement means already provided in a conventional automated vehicle fabrication plant, little or no additional cost is incurred by providing for movement of the door 4 with respect to the fixed extrusion die 15.

  • Publication number: 20060230686
Abstract: A car door comprises an outer part 1 and an inner part 3 which are coupled together by a fixing screw 21 and retainer 23. A sealing strip 7 is fitted over a terminal portion 15 of the inner door part 3 by means of adhesive tape 17. The fixing screw 21 is fitted by distorting or compressing the tubular portion 9 of the seal which brings aperture 31 into alignment with the aperture 22 through which the screw 21 is to pass. When the screw 21 has been fitted into the aperture 22, the tubular part 9 of the seal 7 is released and resiles. The fixing screw 21 serves to provide an additional means for locating the seal 7 and secures the inner door part 3 to the outer door part 1. A concealing lip 25 extending integrally from the tubular part 9 of the seal 7 conceals from view the point where the outer door part 1 and the inner door part 3 are joined together to improve the visual appearance of the door and to reduce or prevent dirt or moisture entering the space between the outer and inner door parts 1 and 3.

  • Patent number: 6996936
Abstract: A window sealing and guiding channel for a window frame carried by a vehicle door is arranged to match the sharp angle at the corner of the frame. A distal lip of the wall of the channel on the inside of the window is severed from the remainder of the channel side wall from a point on one side of the sharp corner, through the sharp corner to the end of the channel, and this lip is bent into a smooth curve to bridge across the sharp corner. The lip on the other channel side wall is also severed from the remainder of its side wall at the sharp corner. In addition, the lip of the other channel side wall is cut through to form a mitered joint matching the angle at the sharp corner. The remainder of the channel side walls is removed at the sharp corner and replaced by a previously molded insert having a channel-form at the sharp corner and an extended wall portion filling the gap where the lip of the inside channel wall bridges across the corner.
