  • Patent number: 9941185
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a variable heat conductor that is able to increase heat conduction capacity based on operating temperature. The variable heat conductor is to be positioned between an electronic device and a heat sink to facilitate cooling of the electronic device. During cold start-up of the electronic device, the variable heat conductor acts as a thermal isolator, causing the electronic device to warm more quickly following the cold start-up. The variable heat conductor may fully conduct heat at higher temperatures that are at or above a desired temperature set-point.

  • Publication number: 20170321966
Abstract: An apparatus and corresponding approaches for a combined energy dissipation include an energy dissipater forming a hollow chamber therein containing a partial pressure working fluid and a first adjustable thermal connector configured to be placed in an opening of the energy dissipater between an energy generating component to transfer energy there between. The first adjustable thermal connector includes a heat spreader at least partially disposed within the opening of the dissipater, an elastic member operably coupled to the energy dissipater, a flexible membrane coupled to the energy dissipater and the heat spreader, and a phase change material configured to at least partially fill an area defined by the opening, heat spreader, elastic member, and flexible membrane. Upon changing the phase change material to a first material phase, the elastic member applies a biasing force to the energy generating component to align the heat spreader with the energy generating component.

  • Publication number: 20160239755
Abstract: A system for predicting events by associating time series data with other types of non-time series data can include a processor configured to receive a data stream including time series data transmitted from a sensor configured to measure an operating parameter of a component being monitored. The processor identifies sequences of interest in the time series data having predictive value. The processor compares the real-time data stream to a set of pre-existing event data that act as effective leading indicators of different alarms and events. The processor extracts any identified sequences of interest from the time series data as an extracted event. The processor quantifies the relationship between the data of the extracted event and the known historical pattern by calculating a confidence level to denote a probability of occurrence of the event by comparing how closely the new time series data matches the data patterns associated with known events.

  • Patent number: 9250625
Abstract: A monitoring system for determining the future operational condition of an object includes an empirical model to receive reference data that indicates the normal operational state of the object and input pattern arrays. Each input pattern array has a plurality of input vectors, while each input vector represents a time point and has input values representing a plurality of parameters indicating the current condition of the object. The model generates estimate values based on a calculation that uses an input pattern array and the reference data to determine a similarity measure between the input values and reference data. The estimate values, in the form of an estimate matrix, include at least one estimate vector of inferred estimate values, and represents at least one time point that is not represented by the input vectors. The inferred estimate values are used to determine a future condition of the object.

  • Publication number: 20150120012
Abstract: Approaches are provided whereby synchronization is achieved between control logic at an automation controller and a representation of this logic at a communication network. Control logic is initially deployed to an automatic controller and a representation of this control logic is stored at the communication network. The automation controller is located remotely from the network. When a change is made to the representation of the control logic at the network, the control logic is re-deployed to the automation controller so that the operator of the control logic is synchronized to the representation. The synchronization is effective to allow a service center to remotely service the control logic without the need for traveling to the automation controller.
