Patent number: 10285407Abstract: A system and method for cutting a carcass. The system comprises a support assembly (12) movable along a first path and a second path adjacent to a first portion and a second portion of the carcass respectively; a retractable assembly (14) movable between an extended configuration when the support assembly is moved along the first path and a retracted configuration away from the carcass when the support assembly (12) is being moved along the second path; a first cutting tools (16) processing the first portion of the carcass when the support assembly (12) is moved along the first path, and disengaging from the carcass when the retractable assembly (14) is in the retracted position; and a second cutting tool processing the second portion of the carcass when the support assembly (12) is moved along the second path. The first cutting tool (16) is independently and separately movable relatively to movement of the second cutting tool (18).Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2016Date of Patent: May 14, 2019Assignees: G.E. Publication number: 20110198153Abstract: Disclosed is a modular platform comprising a horizontal frame that is made of four angle irons and is devised and sized to receive and support a grid on which one or more persons can stand. Four supporting legs, each made of an angle iron, are respectively connected to the four corners of the frame, and extend below the same in order to maintain it at a distance from the ground. Reinforcing pieces are positioned below the frame and connected to the supporting legs for reinforcing the platform. The platform also comprises at least two thin holding bars extending horizontally between two opposite sides of the frame, in order to support the grid on the frame while preventing it from staying directly on the angle irons forming the frame. Each supporting leg has a lower end provided with a supporting foot that is adjustable in height, and has a lower end of a round shape to reduce the contact surface with the ground. The platform structure makes the platform very easy to clean.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2011Publication date: August 18, 2011Applicant: G.E. Publication number: 20100176269Abstract: Disclosed is an easy-to-clean pedestal for use in the food industry, especially the meat processing industry, in order to support a piece of equipment. This pedestal is made of one single piece of material such as steel, that is flat and extends vertically with at least one folded side. Inasmuch as this pedestal is made of a single piece that is flat and free of interstices, remnants of meat or other contaminants that facilitate microbial growth, cannot be trapped. Moreover, its cleaning is much easier even with a water spray.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2009Publication date: July 15, 2010Applicant: G.E. LEBLANC INC.Inventor: Marcel Couture

Patent number: 7331850Abstract: Disclosed is a loin puller for trimming off the backfat of a loin that has been scribed from a belly. This loin puller has a frame on which is mounted a conveying system for engaging the loin and moving it towards a cutting zone. In this zone, a cutting tool is mounted for engaging the loin when it is moved by the conveying system, and for cutting the backfat to be trimmed off from the loin, with the so-cut backfat remaining attached to the belly. The cutting tool has two blades that are preferably controlled independently from each other. One of these blades is arcuate and positioned onto the frame so as to engage at least one part of the loin from a side of the loin opposite to the belly, and to cut the backfat to be trimmed from the loin. The other blade is L-shaped and positioned onto the frame so as to engage another part of the loin and cut the backfat to be trimmed thereof directly from the scribing line just below the back ribs of the loin.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2006Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Assignee: G.E. Patent number: 6336856Abstract: A loin puller for processing a carcass-half comprising a loin and a flank partially separated by cutting, the loin comprising a layer fat to be trimmed off. The machine has a frame which is fixed an elongated rectilinear working surface intended to receive and support the loin of the carcass-half to be processed. A conveying system is mounted onto the frame above the working surface for engaging and pressing the loin and moving it together with the flank connected thereto up to a cutting zone. An arcuate cutting blade is mounted to the frame in the cutting zone for engaging the loin when the frame is moved by the conveying system and for cutting the layer fat to be trimmed off the same. Advantageously, the frame is devised to let the flank fall down from the working surface while the carcass-half is moved by the conveying system. As a result, more visibility is left for evaluating an optimum position for the cutting blade.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2000Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Assignee: G.E. Patent number: 4970755Abstract: The apparatus for trimming a layer of back fat off a pork shoulder butt comprises a frame as well as a flat, flexible and arcuate cutting blade with two ends respectively attached to a pair of blade holders pivotally mounted onto the frame. A conveyor, a set of upper gripper belts, and a rotative roller pass the shoulder butt through the blade to trim off the layer of fat. The rotative roller has a diameter gradually decreasing along its longitudinal axis from each end of the roller toward the center thereof to define an annular, concave outer surface. This roller is mounted onto the frame adjacent the arcuate blade on the outside of the curve this blade defines but with a distance separating the annular surface and the blade to enable passage of the layer of fat between them. The annular outer surface of the roller is formed with teeth to engage the fat whereby rotation of the roller forces the shoulder butt through the blade.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1989Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: G.E.
