    Abstract: A resin composition is provided which contains (A) 5-80 weight parts polyphenylene ether resins and (B) 20-90 weight parts polyamide resins, wherein the (B) polyamide resins: (a) comprise 1-50 weight percent of polyamide resins having a number-average molecular weight not greater than 11,000, and a terminal amino group content of at least 7.0.times.10.sup.-5 mole/g, and (b) have an overall number-average molecular weight of 9,500 to 32,000, and a terminal amino group content of 5.5.times.10.sup.-5 mole/g or less. The resin compositions have both good impact resistance (in particular at low temperatures) and good melt flow. The resin compositions can be used in a wide range of applications, and so are industrially useful.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes for the production of polycarbonates by melt polycondensation of an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic acid diester or a diphenyl carbonate compound wherein said polycondensation is carried out in the presence of from 0.05 to 15 mol %, based on 1 mole of the aromatic dihydroxy compound, of a phenol having from 10 to 40 carbon atoms, a carbonic acid diester having from 17 to 50 carbon atoms or a carbonic acid diester having from 13 to 16 carbon atoms, using a catalyst comprising (a) a nitrogen containing basic compound, (b) from 10.sup.-8 to 10.sup.-3 mole, based on 1 mole of the aromatic dihydroxy compound, of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound, and (c) boric acid or boric ester. Also disclosed is a polycarbonate in which from 5 to 30% of its terminal groups are hydroxy groups and it has a sodium content of not more than 1 ppm and a chlorine content of not more than 20 ppm.

    Abstract: Objects formed by injection molding of molding compositions comprising:(a) 10 to 80 parts by weight of at least one aromatic polycarbonate resin;(b) 90 to 20 parts by weight of a mixture of (b1) 20-99% by weight of a graft copolymer with a rubbery graft base and (b2) 80-1% by weight of a copolymer of (b2i) styrene, alpha-methyl styrene, methyl methacrylate or a mixture thereof and (b2ii) acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, maleic anhydride, N-substituted maleimide or a mixture thereof and(c) per 100 parts of (a) and (b) together 2-25 parts by weight of talc. By choosing a talc with a mean particle size between 1.5 and 20 micrometers one obtains objects with a mat surface appearance. The dullness of the surface can further be increased by using a graft copolymer with a relatively low grafting efficiency of 0.5 to 50%.

    Abstract: Polyphenylene ether-olefin polymer copolymer compositions are prepared by the reaction of an epoxytriazine-capped polyphenylene ether with an olefin polymer containing highly nucleophilic (e.g., carboxylic acid) substituents. The copolymers have excellent properties and find utility as molding compositions and as compatibilizers for blends of similar polymers. Suitable epoxytriazine-capped polyphenylene ethers may be prepared by reaction of a polyphenylene ether with an epoxychlorotriazine such as diglycidyl chlorocyanurate, n-butyl glycidyl chlorocyanurate or mesityl glycidyl chlorocyanurate.
