Abstract: A casting mold assembly is provided with improved facilities for preventing the generation of cleavages at the joints of successive plates that are arranged in a closed path about the mold axis to define the central mold cavity. A securing ring tightly engages the outer surface of the plates with the aid of a spring-loaded compression assembly, wherein a pair of spaced parallel legs that terminate the ring are forcibly pressed together by means of a disc spring that is mounted on the shaft of a threaded member and that is captured between the outer surface of one of the ring legs and a threaded nut that cooperates with the shaft. The resultant tightening of the joints between the plates that form the mold wall forms an impenetrable seal to prevent leakage of slag and other residues resulting from hot melts within the mold cavity.
Abstract: Construction and machine parts manufactured from high-silicon-containing, austenitic iron-chromium-nickel alloys containing 0.01-0.25% C, 3.5-5.0% Si, 0.0-2.0% Mn, 17.0-20.0% Cr, 14.0-18.0% Ni, 0.0-0.2% N, 1.0-2.0% Nb, with the remainder being iron and unavoidable impurities. The parts are useful in air combustion and carburizng atmospheres at temperatures above 800.degree. C or in a nitriding atmosphere at temperatures above 400.degree. C.
Abstract: An arrangement for the production of ingots from high-melting metals, such as steel, by electroslag-remelting is disclosed. A water-cooled ingot mold including a bottom plate forms the solidifying ingot, the ingot being a solidifying portion and a liquid sump. A self-consuming electrode extends into a layer of molten slag covering the liquid sump. An a.c. source is connected between the plate and self-consuming electrode. The mold is adapted to be raised in a known manner. At least one tubular auxiliary electrode is provided with a plasma-forming gas. A d.c. source is connected to the auxiliary electrode and the bottom plate of the mold, the d.c. source being independent of the a.c. source. Various forms of the auxiliary electrode are described.
