  • Patent number: 4835031
Abstract: A method for producing a profiled strip and the resulting profiled strip, wherein the profiled strip comprises a flexurally elastic reinforcement insert deformed, for example, into a U-shape, covered by a covering of rubber, or the like which is preferably extruded over the insert. The insert is a metal strip which is stamp cut for defining a continuous web extending across the strip and for defining at least one plurality of rungs in the metal strip. The rungs extend away from the web and preferably are defined on both opposite sides of the web. The rungs are defined by a stamp cutting operation so that after the insert is smoothed following the stamp cutting, there is no spacing between neighboring edges of adjacent rungs.

  • Patent number: 4809463
Abstract: A window frame of rubber, or the like covering material, has two U-shaped sealing strips at opposite surfaces of the window. A respective U-shaped cross-section reinforcing strip insert is embedded in each of the sealing strips. A bridge joins the legs of the two sealing strips near the window. The sealing strips and the bridge include projecting fingers which engage the window surface. The bridge is removed from the bottom of the window cutout, and the bridge instead hangs down to define guides for the sides of the window as it moves down. Each reinforcing insert is a high tensile and compressive strength metal strip, but is also flexurally elastic and is smooth on the outside and is developed approximately U-shaped in cross-section. The window frame has ends which are butted and butt vulcanized, with the butt vulcanization place being free of the reinforcement insert.

  • Patent number: 4743328
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for wrapping a cushioning member, particularly a sun visor, with a web of wrapping material formed from two blanks, in which one blank is placed on one main surface of the cushioning member and the second blank is placed on its other main surface. Each blank forms a continuously protruding flange in the center plane of the cushioning member. The flanges are clamped between two opposed web electrodes, and the flanges are welded peripherally to each other by high-frequency welding in such a manner than an inward-directed weld bead is formed by the flow of material at the flange edges facing the member. After the termination of the welding process, that is, after the disconnecting of the high-frequency voltage, the flanges remain clamped between the electrodes, possibly with an increase in the clamping pressure.

  • Patent number: 4720132
Abstract: A sun visor for vehicles is formed of a sun visor body constructed of plastic foam which is stiffened by a two section stiffening wire. The sun visor is supported by a mounting housing, located at one corner of the sun visor body. The mounting housing receives a sun visor support shaft. An outer support pin which can be detachably connected to a support member of the vehicle is located longitudinally opposite of the mounting housing. The mounting housing defines a first insertion opening into which is plugged one end of one of the stiffening wires and a second insertion opening which accommodates a leaf spring which bears on the sun visor support shaft. The outer support pin and the mounting housing have additional insertion holes which enable rapid connection of the stiffening wire sections to the outer support pin and to the mounting housing by plugging of the components into one another. The two stiffening wire sections are further utilized to conduct electrical power to a sun visor lamp.

  • Patent number: 4719067
Abstract: A method of forming end pieces on plastic molding strips which have at least one longitudinally external hollow chamber within. The end pieces are formed by injection molding on the ends of the molding strip in a mold which receives the end regions of the molding strip. The end of the strip is seated against a capping element located in the molding cavity. The capping element serves both as a stopper which fixes the axial position of the strip within the molding cavity and as a capping element which seals the opening into the hollow chamber of the strip.

  • Patent number: 4696510
Abstract: A swivel bearing for automobile sun visors has a bearing housing with a mounting bore which is circularly shaped at the entrance into the mounting bore and which gradually widens along one axis to be oblong at the outlet from the mounting bore. The short mounting arm of a L-shaped shaft, on which shaft the sun visor body is supported, is received in the mounting bore. The section of the mounting arm located within the mounting bore is itself conically narrowed between the entrance and the outlet from the mounting bore. From the inlet to the outlet, the mounting bore widens along the long axis of the bore to define a slot in which the mounting arm can pivot in a manner which allows alignment of the shaft with respect to an outer support housing in which the free end of the shaft is detachably receivable.

  • Patent number: 4683522
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a vehicle sun visor having a recess in one of its surfaces and a housing in the recess where the bottom of the housing is a trough having a detent in one of its side walls and carrying a light source and an operating switch for the light source. The top is a insert which includes a detent clip to clip it to the bottom part. An opening in the top part provides access to a switch for the light source in the bottom part. A mirror is in the top part. An illumination window in the top part permits light to exit from the bottom part. There may be a point radiator for light at the illumination window. A displaceable cover over the mirror is spring-biased to translate open over the surface of the mirror to expose the mirror. There may be a point radiator for light at the illumination window. A spring-loaded knob connected with the cover holds the same closed and when the knob is operated, it releases the cover to be biased open by the rubber band spring.

  • Patent number: 4664435
Abstract: A sun visor for vehicles is disclosed which has a cushioning sun visor body surrounded by a cover layer and stiffened by an incorporated reinforcement insert. At one end of one of the longitudinal edges of the body, a support shaft is mounted with one end in the body and the other end held by a swivel bearing. At the other end of the same longitudinal edge, a support pin is mounted extending across a recess defined in that edge. The support pin is approximately parallel to that longitudinal edge and can be detachably engaged with the support receiver of an outer support. The support pin is formed, in whole or in part, of a plastic body which is injection molded directly onto a region of the cover layer.

  • Patent number: 4655498
Abstract: A sun visor for an automotive vehicle, having one main surface in which is defined a recess in which a housing is disposed over which a cover is pivotally mounted. One hinge pin for the cover is placed on the visor body. A second hinge pin for the cover is placed on the cover. A C-shaped strap joins the hinge pins. Each end region of the strap has two detent recesses. A respective spring biased locking element at each end region engages in one or the other respective recess at the end region to hold the strap to pivot between two detented positions. This holds the cover and also permits the cover to pivot between detented positions, which enables the cover to be held closed against the one main surface, outwardly projecting from that surface or fully opened orientation at that surface. Details of both spring arrangements for cooperating with the detent recesses are disclosed. The side of the cover exposed at a fully open orientation carries a mirror.

  • Patent number: 4646879
Abstract: An instrument panel for an automotive vehicle is attached to a rigid beam that extends across the vehicle body beneath the windshield. The instrument panel is a plastic injection molding. Its outer surface may be provided with cushioning material. At the underside of the panel, beneath its top portion, at least two ribs are provided, which extend across the width of the vehicle and of the instrument panel, are spaced apart and have free edges that rest against the beam inside the vehicle, so that the instrument panel, the ribs and the beam together define an air duct extending across the width of the instrument panel. A seal may be provided at the free edge of each rib for sealing it to the beam. The air duct communicates with windshield defroster nozzles, or the like in the instrument panel.
