Patent number: 5793330Abstract: An interleaved planar array antenna system providing opposite circular polarizations comprises an array of parallel rows of parallel spaced transmit dipole radiating elements and an array of parallel rows of parallel spaced receive dipole radiating elements. Both sets of dipole elements are on the same surface, with the receive dipole elements being oriented orthogonal to the transmit dipole elements and the rows of transmit and receive elements being interleaved. On another surface parallel to and spaced from the first surface, there is at least one transmit feed line which is proximity coupled to the transmit dipole elements and at least one receive feed line which is proximity coupled to the receive dipole elements. Polarizing means are spaced from and overly the transmit and receive dipole elements for transforming orthogonally oriented linearly polarized transmit and receive beams into oppositely circularly polarized transmit and receive beams.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventors: Lawrence S. Patent number: 5566202Abstract: A system which receives a pseudonoise sequence signal, quantizes the signal during a fixed increment of time, and passes the quantized signal to a single "split" correlator channel. The system utilizes sub-correlation products from that single "split" channel to calculate correlation outputs of other desired correlation channels. Specifically, the "split" correlator channel includes a pair of shift register strings, with the corresponding stages of each string being of equal length, and with a phase rotator being provided between consecutive stages of the shift register strings. In-phase and quadrature components of the received signal are each provided as inputs to a respective one of the shift register strings, and each shift register string stage is correlated with the pseudonoise sequence.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventor: James W. Patent number: 5333002Abstract: A full aperture interleaved space duplexed beamshaped microstrip antenna system wherein the separate transmit and receive microstrip antennas each has respective arrays of radiating patch elements. Each of the antennas is fed from a single end thereof so that each antenna creates four beams. Beam pitch angles are introduced into each antenna so as to reduce the coupling between adjacent lines to allow the gap within each connected line pair to be reduced. This gap reduction provides room for the antennas to be interleaved within a common rectangular aperture so that the separate feeds are at opposite ends of the aperture. Each antenna then utilizes the entire aperture. Isolation elements are provided between the lines of the transmit and receive antennas so as to reduce the mutual coupling therebetween and maintain the minimum required sixty dB isolation.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1993Date of Patent: July 26, 1994Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventors: Lawrence S. Patent number: 5289196Abstract: A space duplexed beamshaped microstrip antenna system including transmit and receive antennas, each of which has two groups of interleaved arrays. The array groups are slanted in opposite directions and each is fed from opposite corners of the antenna so that each group utilizes its entire assigned reduced width aperture to create the required beam contours for two beams. To achieve frequency and temperature compensation, one of the antennas is made up of forward firing arrays and the other of the antennas is made up of backward firing arrays.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1992Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventors: Lawrence S. Patent number: 5285472Abstract: A system which receives a pseudonoise sequence signal quantizes the signal during a fixed interval of time and passes the quantized signal to a plurality of correlation channels. Each of the correlation channels rotates the incoming phase modulation at a different fixed rate to cancel out a corresponding component of offset frequency. The outputs of the correlation channels are examined to determine whether acceptable correlation has been attained and, if so, which channel provides the best frequency compensation.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1993Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventors: Jay F. Patent number: 5184135Abstract: A system which receives a pseudonoise sequence signal quantizes the phase of the received signal in digital form as in-phase and quadrature digital signals. A digital correlator correlates the digital signals against the stored pseudonoise code sequence and separately accumulates the results. The accumulated results are vector added and a peak detector is utilized to determine the time of arrival of the signal. At the same time, the accumulated results are used by an arctangent calculator to derive a phase signal, which is gated as an output when the time of arrival is determined. An embodiment in a phase monopulse radar system collects the signals from four antennas spaced as pairs in both azimuth and elevation to determine the azimuth and elevation phase differences of the received signal. In this embodiment, a single digital correlator is utilized, the inputs to which are time multiplexed.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1992Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventor: Ronald Y. Patent number: 5179573Abstract: A system which utilizes a digital correlator to determine the time of arrival of a received pseudonoise sequence. At the same time, the incoming pseudonoise sequence is quantized to higher resolution and passed through a digital delay line with a total delay of slightly greater than the duration of the pseudonoise sequence itself. From the time of arrival measurement, a clock strobe timing is established to do active correlation on the delayed received sequence as it emerges from the delay line. The results of the active correlation are accumulated and/or added to obtain the amplitude of the received signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1992Date of Patent: January 12, 1993Assignee: GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems Corp.Inventor: Ronald Y.
