    Abstract: The feed of items from the discharge end of a fixed conveyor on to a second conveyor which is mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the first conveyor to achieve an equal spacing of the items on the second conveyor irrespective of the relative positions of the first and second conveyors is controlled by sensing an item conveyed by the second conveyor shortly after deposition thereon from the first conveyor and preventing discharge of an additional item on to the second conveyor until the first item has been sensed.
