Abstract: A locking and positioning device for reclining seats including a back member pivotally connected to a seat member for movement between an upright position and various inclined positions. The locking and positioning device includes first and second telescoping members interconnected by a pair of gripping elements which are normally biased into frictional gripping engagement with one of the members for preventing relative movement between the members in either direction of travel between the members. Manually actuatable control member is provided for releasing the pair of gripping elements from gripping engagement with the one member for preventing relative movement between the members in either direction of travel between the members.
