  • Patent number: 4558883
Abstract: A hitch assembly for hitching a trailer vehicle and a tow vehicle. A latch assembly is mounted on one vehicle and a guide unit is mounted rearward of the latch assembly. A drawbar has a forward end portion releasably connectable to the latch assembly. The drawbar extends rearward in operative relationship to the guide unit. The guide unit includes guide plates with trailing edge sections in rearwardly diverging arcuate relationship forming a rearwardly open fan-shaped mouth. The rearward end of the drawbar carries coupling apparatus to connect with corresponding apparatus on the trailer. A drawbar guide roller assembly is mounted at an intermediate location on the drawbar. The rearwardly divergent edges of the guide unit are forwardly convergent to a U-shaped pocket. The guide roller assembly is located on the drawbar to be positioned in the pocket when the forward end of the drawbar is fixed in the latch assembly to arrest horizontal movement.
