  • Patent number: 4314906
Abstract: A method of preparing water for human consumption by chlorinating water obtained from reservoirs, lakes, or streams, which water contains microorganisms and naturally occurring or pollutant organic precursor substances known to react with chlorine to yield one or more halogenated organic compounds, holding the chlorinated water for a period of time sufficient for the chlorine to react with said precursors to produce halogenated organic compounds, and then removing the halogenated organic compounds from the water by aeration. Such treatment also removes any bromine-containing organic compounds contained in the water and any chlorine derivatives thereof formed in the chlorine treatment.

  • Patent number: 4313634
Abstract: A collapsible frame for supporting a container is manufactured from two loops formed from a single length of wire which are intertwined to form a handle and sprung to form base members which are yieldably urged apart. An inwardly narrowed neck portion is formed intermediate the handle and the base members to provide points of support for the container. A containment loop encompasses the neck portion of the frame and inwardly urges the points of support against the container as it is pushed into position within the containment loop. The base members are capable of being pressed into a planar assembly when the container is removed to allow a plurality of similarly constructed frames to be compactly stacked.

  • Patent number: 4303417
Abstract: A spray booth having bottom, top, and back surfaces and a spray gun for depositing spray coating material onto the articles as they are conveyed through the booth. The bottom surface of the spray booth includes a hopper for collecting undeposited coating material and the top surface of the spray booth includes a vent opening. An exhaust fan is coupled to the vent opening for pulling atmosphere from within the spray booth in a first direction through the vent opening. A baffle is positioned between the spray gun and the vent opening for deflecting undeposited coating material and allowing it to fall by gravity into the hopper, and a filter media is positioned between the baffle and vent opening for collecting any remaining undeposited coating material present before being pulled through the vent opening.

  • Patent number: 4287671
Abstract: An oven for curing coatings on articles removes the volatile components of the coating by a heated circulated atmosphere directed at high velocity at the coated articles and increasing in temperature between the entrance and the exit of the articles from the oven. Prior to their exit from the oven, the coated articles are exposed to infrared radiation in relatively still air to effect the final curing of the coating. The oven enclosure includes an open portion and a ducted portion. The ducted and open portions of the oven enclosure and the heating means are arranged to contribute to the effective use of energy. Within the ducted portion is a removable fan means supported and driven from outside of the oven enclosure. The ducted portion of the oven communicates with an exhaust opening in the oven enclosure having a damper valve that can be automatically controlled to permit exhaust when the level of the volatile coating material components in the oven atmosphere exceeds a preset amount.

  • Patent number: 4181093
Abstract: A spraying system for applying a coating to articles includes a spray booth having a back, a reciprocating spray gun, and an exhaust fan to pull atmosphere from within the spray booth through said back to collect undeposited spray coating material and to exhaust solvent vapors released within the spray booth. The back is movable and has a vent opening having an area substantially smaller than the area of the back, the remainder of the back being impervious to booth atmosphere. The spraying system also includes means for reciprocating the movable back in synchronism with the reciprocating spray gun so that said vent opening is maintained directly before the spray gun during operation.

  • Patent number: 4113894
Abstract: A curable coating process wherein the surface of a panel formed from wood, particle board, plastic, etc., is coated with a radiation curable coating. A radiation permeable film has a controlled gloss surface on one side thereof, and the film is placed over the panel with the controlled gloss surface in intimate contact with the uncured radiation sensitive coating. The panel and film are then together irradiated to cure the coating to the same gloss as the gloss controlled surface, with the sheet and film being removed after curing.

  • Patent number: 3965805
Abstract: A spray-finishing system including a tunnel through which objects to be finished longitudinally move and a chamber under the tunnel and in communication with the tunnel through the grill-type floor. The chamber is exhausted by conventional exhaust fan techniques. The improvement comprises a longitudinally extending divider dividing the chamber into lateral subchambers from which the air is exhausted. The divider provides, for each subchamber, a longitudinally and downwardly extending wall surface terminating at its lower extremity into a laterally relatively narrow trough which is relatively steeply inclined longitudinally downwardly. In each subchamber, a longitudinally extending, inwardly and downwardly sloping panel is provided having a distal edge spaced apart from the wall surface to provide a longitudinally extending, laterally narrow slot through which the air drawn from the subchamber moves.

  • Patent number: 3951775
Abstract: An electrocoating tank arrangement characterized by a centrally and longitudinally disposed paint supply header extending along and proximate to the bottom of the tank, where the tank has sloped bottom walls, and where a highly desirable paint agitation pattern is achieved, permitting the part or article under processing to be effectively coated with optimum results. The electrocoating tank may further include adjustable weir arrangements at opposite ends thereof to promote surface circulation. The paint material is recirculated through conventional means and the electrocoating tank forms an important function in a conveyorized operation.
