Publication number: 20130333863Abstract: The present invention relates to a controllable cooling system (1) for a motor vehicle, comprising a coolant circuit which routes coolant to and out of an internal combustion engine, and to a mechanically operated, controllable main coolant pump (3) and an electrically operated, controllable secondary coolant pump (5). The cooling system further comprises a control device which controls the main coolant pump (3) and the secondary coolant pump (5) in dependence on operating conditions of the internal combustion engine. The invention furthermore provides an electrically operated, controllable secondary coolant pump (5) for such a cooling system (1), an impeller (25) for use in this secondary coolant pump (5), and a method for controlling the coolant flow in such a cooling system (1).Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2011Publication date: December 19, 2013Applicant: Gerate- und Pumpenbau GmbH Dr. Eugen SchmidtInventor: Franz Pawellek

Publication number: 20130330222Abstract: In producing tooth shapes of two toothed rings of an annular gear machine, a starting geometry of a first toothed ring, at least one quality criterion of the annular gear machine, and a desired eccentricity between rotational axes of the two toothed rings are defined. A motion is performed with the starting geometry that performs a rotational motion about its rotational axis and a revolving motion about the rotational axis of the second toothed ring. The rotational and revolving motions are coupled so the rotational angle of the eccentricity equals the product of the rotational angle and tooth count of the first toothed ring. A tooth shape contour of the second toothed ring is generated by recording the path described by the envelope of the starting geometry. If the defined quality criterion is not met, the previously used starting geometry and/or the defined eccentricity is changed and steps are repeated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2012Publication date: December 12, 2013Applicant: GERATE-UND PUMPENBAU GMBH DR. Patent number: 8038419Abstract: A controllable coolant pump for internal combustion engines driven by torque transmission elements has a pump housing, a driven shaft mounted in the pump housing, an impeller wheel arranged fixedly in terms of rotation on a free, flow-side end of the shaft, and a pressure-activated valve slide having an outer cylinder covering the outflow region of the impeller wheel in a variable manner. The valve slide is of annular configuration and is arranged on piston rods mounted displaceably in the pump housing. An annular piston mounted in an annular groove in the pump housing and movable in a defined manner in the annular groove via excess pressure or vacuum is arranged on the piston rods in a manner lying opposite the valve slide.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2006Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Geräte- und Pumpenbau GmbH Dr. Eugen SchmidtInventors: Eugen Schmidt, Franz Pawellek

Patent number: 6920846Abstract: The present invention advantageously proposes an electrical coolant pump (1), in particular for the coolant circuit of internal combustion engines for automotive vehicles, comprising a coolant pump motor for driving an impeller (6) through the intermediary of a pump shaft (10), and a valve (36) that is integrated into the pump inlet, wherein for the first time the coolant pump motor constitutes the switching element for the valve (36). Moreover the present invention for the first time specifies a method for controlling the valve (36), wherein the work necessary for switching is afforded by the coolant pump motor and is transmitted to the valve (36), in particular a 3/2-port directional control valve, via the shaft (10) of the pump motor.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2003Date of Patent: July 26, 2005Assignee: GPM Geräte-und Pumpenbau GmbHInventors: Franz Pawellek, Andreas Schmidt

Patent number: 6817772Abstract: A bearing arrangement for pump bearings mounted in plastic housings, in particular for coolant pumps, comprises a radial housing groove that is provided with an inlet bore, the groove being arranged in the coolant pump housing. A bearing groove located opposite the housing groove in the final mounted condition is provided on the bearing ring arranged in the bearing seat. This arrangement can be manufactured and mounted in a simple manner, permits tempering of the plastic housing, always ensures a high degree of efficiency of the pump with minimal manufacturing and installation expenditure, and permits the use of bearings as pump bearings with minor play of the bearing with a longer service life, low development of noise, and relief of the shaft sealing gasket, and many other benefits.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2003Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Geräte-und Pumpenbau GmbH Dr. Eugen SchmidtInventors: Eugen Schmidt, Frank Blaurock

Patent number: 6612815Abstract: An electrically powered coolant pump particularly suited for an internal combustion engine has a pump housing having an elongate shape which encloses a pump wheel on the inlet side and subsequently downstream therefrom encloses an electric motor. An annular flow passage for the coolant is formed between the pump housing and the outside of the electric motor. The electric motor is encapsulated against the coolant, and the structural component of electric motor and pump wheel is retained in the axial range of the electric motor with at least one web in the pump housing through which connections for driving the electric motor are routed. The electric motor is cooled by the coolant flowing by, and may therefore be operated at very high rotational speeds, so that a small structural size and a low weight may be realized. Widely varying installation locations for the coolant pump are therefore possible.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: GPM Gerate-und Pumpenbau GmbHInventors: Franz Pawellek, Frank Blaurock, Peter Amm
