  • Patent number: 5655289
Abstract: A blind-rivet setting device, includes a tension device, an intermediate storage and computing device, an evaluation device and an electrical circuit. The tension device is driven by an electric motor having an input current and provides a tensile force on the blind-rivet. The intermediate storage and computing device stores and computes a rated current range depending on the material and dimensions of the blind-rivet. The evaluation device has a comparator for monitoring the input current received by the electric motor. The electrical circuit produces an error message when the maximum value of the input current is not within the rated current range.

  • Patent number: 5496140
Abstract: A blind rivet includes a mandrel shaft having a head disposed at one axial end. A hollow rivet shell has a cylindrical shape including an inner cylindrical surface and an outer cylindrical surface. The rivet shell surrounds the mandrel shaft. The outer cylindrical surface has at least one attenuation groove, which includes at least two recesses. Each recess has a bottom surface that substantially forms a secant with respect to the outer cylindrical surface. A method of manufacturing a blind rivet comprises the steps of placing a mandrel shaft having a head within a hollow rivet shell, producing at least one attenuation groove in an outer cylindrical surface of the rivet shell after the placing step so that at least two recesses are formed. Each of the recesses has a bottom surface that substantially forms a secant with respect to the outer cylindrical surface.

  • Patent number: 5473805
Abstract: A power tool for the setting of blind rivets has a reversible electric motor which can reciprocate a gripper for the mandrel of a blind rivet through a transmission employing a rotary nut driven by the motor and a spindle which reciprocates the gripper in response to rotation of the nut. The motor is permanently connected with the spindle, and hence with the gripper, and the ratio of the transmission including the nut and the spindle is not dependent upon the position of the gripper. Such construction enhances the comfort to the operator of the power tool. The electric circuit for the motor is designed in such a way that the motor is disconnected from a portable energy source and is braked prior to a reversal in the direction of rotation of its output element.

  • Patent number: 4281531
Abstract: A blind riveter has a T-shaped housing whose one T-arm forms a working tip provided with a reciprocal internal chuck, whose other arm is formed as a hollow compartment, and whose central T-leg incorporates a pneumatic cylinder. The cylinder can displace the chuck to pull the mandrel of a blind rivet, thereby pulling the rivet back against the tip to upset the rivet. A passage extends from the chuck back into the compartment. The cover of the compartment is formed with a jet pump that is powered off the pneumatic supply that operates the riveter and serves to suck a mandrel pulled from a rivet back from the chuck into the compartment.
