    Abstract: An optical monitoring system has a video camera which includes a first sensing unit for the production of black-and-white images and a second sensing unit for the production of color images. The first sensing unit generates black-and-white image signals which are sent to a processor for black-and-white signals. Similarly, the second sensing unit generates color image signals which are sent to a processor for color signals. The processed signals leave the camera via a common output.
