Patents Assigned to Giba-Geigy Corporation
  • Patent number: 5209758
Abstract: The invention relates to novel pasty or solid dye melts which contain, per 1 part of a sparingly water-soluble or water-insoluble dye whose melting point is higher than 150.degree. C., 2 to less than 5 parts of a nonionic surfactant with a melting point of 25.degree.-100.degree. C. and having an HLB value of 13 to 19 or of a cationic surfactant with a melting point of 25.degree.-100.degree. C., or a mixture of said surfactants, to a process for their preparation and to the use of said melts, preferably for dyeing and printing polyester materials, to give level dyeings having a high degree of exhaustion.

  • Patent number: 4855367
Abstract: Orthocarbonates of the formula I ##STR1## in which R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, x is zero, 1 or 2, and A is a trivalent radical derived from an aliphatic triol by omitting the hydroxyl groups, the hydroxyl groups of the triol being bonded to different carbon atoms, are suitable as cocomponents in the curing of epoxy resins in that they limit the reduction in volume occurring during curing of epoxy resins. In addition, the cured resins are distinguished by increased flexural strength and impact strength.

  • Patent number: 4670533
Abstract: The invention relates to a substantially anhydrous composition containing(a) an epoxy resin,(b) as hardener for the epoxy resin, the product obtained (i) by finely homogenizing (1) dicyandiamide and (2) urea by grinding (1) and (2) together or dissolving (1) and (2) in a common solvent, or (ii) by melting (1) and (2) together or (iii) by partially reacting (1) and (2) in a common solvent, the weight ratio of (1) and (2) being in the range from 4:1 to 1:4, and, optionally,(c) a curing accelerator. The compositions are suitable in particular for the preparation of coatings, preferably as powder coating compositions, and are distinguished by a very good relationship between levelling and reactivity, and the cured coatings have excellent stability to solvents and boiling water as well as excellent mechanical properties.
