  • Patent number: 4557491
Abstract: In a transmission joint for rotating at high speed, a sealing device ensuring the retention of the lubricant comprises a bellows 9 of an elastomer and having an end wall 21 which is oriented radially and terminates in a heel portion 13 gripped in an annular groove 8 provided at the free end of a cap 4 surrounding one of the elements of the joint. In this way, there is obtained a minimum overall axial size of the joint and a good performance notwithstanding the effects of centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4518370
Abstract: A unit comprising a transmission shaft and elements of constant-speed joints connected to such shaft has a moment of inertia I.sub.G about an axis perpendicular to the transmission shaft and passing through the center of gravity of the unit which is defined by the relation I.sub.G =m.multidot.h.multidot.l, in which m is the mass of the unit and h and l are the distances between the articulation centers of the two joints and the center of gravity. This arrangement prevents radial vibrations of a driving shaft in the region of the joint to be connected to a wheel.

  • Patent number: 4504245
Abstract: The object of the invention is to achieve a reduced cost, great lightness and possibility of mass-production of the coupling while of course retaining the qualities of a very free sliding, reliability and long life. Such qualities should in particular permit an application of the coupling in the automobile industry. The coupling is of the type comprising a cylindrical tubular sleeve which has generatrices parallel to the direction of sliding and which is intended to be fixed to one of two elements to be coupled. The sleeve defines at least two runways for at least two rollers rotatively mounted on trunnions rigid with a rod which is intended to be fixed to the other of the elements to be coupled. At the end of the sleeve opposed to the end fixed to the element to be coupled, there is provided a cover which is fixed to the sleeve by an elastically yieldable fastener.

  • Patent number: 4490126
Abstract: A telescopic homokinetic joint which is capable of filtering vibrations coming from the driving means and is also devoid, or substantially devoid, of periodical internal friction. This result is obtained in a homokinetic joint comprising a first element including three pairs of planes which are evenly angularly spaced apart about a first axis, the planes of each pair being parallel to each other and to said axis, a second element defining three spherical bearing surfaces which are evenly angularly spaced apart about a second axis, and intermediate elements. The intermediate elements comprise planar surfaces which are respectively parallel to the planes and spherical surfaces which cooperate with the spherical bearing surfaces. According to the invention, rolling elements are interposed between the planar surfaces of the intermediate elements and the planes of the first element.

  • Patent number: 4484900
Abstract: An articulated transmission joint includes a plurality of arms, each arm carrying a roller. Each roller is biased axially outwardly of the respective arm by an elastically yieldable device which is operative between a washer rigid with a hub carrying the arms of the joint and the inner end of a groove formed in the axially inner face of the roller. The elastically yieldable device is fully withdrawable into the groove when it is compressed so as to avoid reducing the effective thickness of the hub.

  • Patent number: 4478591
Abstract: Each trunnion of a spider is provided with an axial lubricating conduit having an outer portion forming a reservoir of increased diameter. Each conduit contains a combined device having an upstream part forming a constricted passage with the narrow portion of the conduit and an intermediate part in the form of a skirt and forming a stop valve. In order to ensure the positioning of this device, the skirt cooperates with a shoulder of the conduit, and a third part of the device cooperates with the end of an associated bearing bush. In this way, formation of air bubbles in the course of the filling of the conduits is avoided and the lubricant is retained in the reservoir during the course of operation.

  • Patent number: 4473129
Abstract: The hub assembly comprises a wheel flange, a transmission joint and a rolling bearing. The confronting radial surfaces of the flange and the inner race of the bearing are separated throughout their height by a gap and consequently do not bear against each other. The connection between these two elements is achieved by means of a circumferential weld. By means of such an arrangement, there is avoided a harmful heating of the rolling bearing and of the joint by transmission of heat from the wheel flange.

  • Patent number: 4472156
Abstract: A homokinetic joint includes rollers mounted to swivel on the spherical ends of arms of a tripod element by means of free diabolo-shaped rolling elements. Three pairs of runways are provided in a bowl element for the rollers. These runways are curved in planes parallel to an axial plane of the bowl element. Two floating rings maintain the mean planes of the rollers parallel to one another. The tripod element is in this way axially retained in the bowl element by the retention of the rollers in the runways axially of the bowl element by a combined effect of the curved shape of the runways and the maintenance of the mean planes of the rollers parallel to one another, with no need for other devices. This joint is compact, highly efficient, and has a high torque-transmitting capacity and a large break angle.

  • Patent number: 4431236
Abstract: This bearing is intended to be employed under a radial load of roughly constant direction, while it is capable of resisting axial forces and tilting moments. It comprises two rows of balls which circulate in raceways formed in a rotating center ring and fixed lateral rings. According to the invention, the distance between the bottom of grooves, formed in the lateral rings and constituting the raceways, and a reference plane, is variable and reaches a maximum value at two diametrically opposed points which are located in a diametrical plane perpendicular to the direction of the load.

  • Patent number: 4429925
Abstract: On the periphery of the ball bearing, six regions alternately ensure upon assembly of the bearing a pre-stressing of the balls in each direction, and six unloaded regions separate these bearing regions. In this way, the bearing is rendered rigid as concerns a tilting moment and there is a low rate of sliding of the balls and it is possible to assemble the bearing by disposing the two rings and the cage coaxially and then inserting the balls one by one through a radial aperture formed in one of the rings and opening onto an unloaded region. Application in the mounting of automobile vehicle wheels.

  • Patent number: 4421196
Abstract: The joint comprises two opposed forks which are angularly offset from each other at 60.degree. and are axially extended by nose portions which are internally spherical. These nose portions swivel on a ring through which extends with a large clearance a shaft section which carries at each end a tripod element associated with one of the forks. The ring is maintained roughly in the bisecting plane of the joint by contact or quasi-contact with the rollers of the two tripod elements. In this way it is possible to produce steering road wheel homokinetic joints which are capable of operating at angles of 50.degree. and more with no reduction in their transmitting capacity.

  • Patent number: 4417643
Abstract: This wheel hub assembly is intended for the driving set of wheels of a vehicle which may be steering wheels or otherwise. It comprises mainly a wheel flange, a transmission joint and a rolling bearing. The axial bearing surface between the flange and the inner race of the rolling bearing is limited to an annular ring of small radial dimension but of relatively large diameter. The section of the passage of the flow of heat between the flange and the race is thus substantially reduced.
