  • Patent number: 4770495
Abstract: The disclosures relates to a barrier plank for a roadway having spaced triangular section ridges extending across the plank at spaced locations along the length of the plank. Each ridge provides a facet facing at an acute angle to the plank in one direction and a corresponding facet on the other side of the ridge facing at an acute angle along the plank in the opposite direction. Facets have red retro-reflective surfaces and facets have white retro-reflective surfaces. Thus light directed from a vehicle at a shallow angle onto the barrier plank will be reflected back by the facets according to the direction of approach so the plank will be readily visible to the driver. Between the ridges the plank has alternate red and white reflective surfaces to reflect back light directed at normal or near normal angles to the plank.

  • Patent number: 4643324
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a waste bin having an inner steel container for refuse and an outer thermoplastic hood form cover having a domed top wall and side ports through which refuse may be deposited in the container. A lid for the container is mounted on the underside of the top wall of the cover and is supported on a central stud extending through the cover by means of a polythene washer held on the stud by a nut. If a fire should develop in the container the resulting heat will cause the washer to melt releasing the cover to fall onto the top of the container therefore preventing air flow into the container to restrict and extinguish the fire.

  • Patent number: 4628716
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a lock suitable for a refuse bin for securing a cover of the bin to a base of the bin. The lock comprises a body to be mounted on the cover and having a spring loaded projecting plunger to engage the base. The plunger has an inclined cam surface disposed within the body and a key is insertable in the body to engage the cam surface. The key has two spaced longitudinally extending abutments to engage the cam surface in succession to provide an initial and then a final retraction of the plunger. A projection is provided on the lock body adjacent the plunger to engage between the abutments on the key and thereby prevent a simple blade from being used to retract fully the plunger.
