Abstract: A device and a method temporarily decrease the blowing width of a glass convection cooler based on the width of the glass to be cooled. In the convection cooler, glass is cooled by air jets. The primary purpose of decreasing the blowing width is to decrease the energy consumption of the convection cooler. In the device, the blowing width of several blowing boxes that are consecutive in the direction of the width of the glass is closed by the closing plates attached to the same shaft by changing their position by rotating the shaft passing through the consecutive blowing boxes. Blowing length can be closed, when a glass sheet to be cooled fits to the narrowed blowing width.

  • Patent number: 11852413
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a tempering furnace for a glass sheet, which has a conveyor for the glass sheet, first convection blow means over the conveyor to heat the glass sheet by hot air jets blown on its top and/or bottom surface, and second convection blow means to help lead pressurized air from outside the tempering furnace to second blow nozzles from which air is discharged as jets towards the top and/or bottom surface of the glass sheet. The heating effect of the air jets on the glass sheet is adjustable by adjusting the feeding of electric current to electric elements inside blowing channels. Blow nozzles of the second convection blow means form blow zones. The heating effect on the glass sheet of the jets discharged from the second blow nozzles inside the blow zones is adjustable by adjusting the blowing pressure of feed pipes.

  • Patent number: 11584676
Abstract: A method for heat strengthening or tempering glass sheets of a glass load containing several glass sheets, in which the glass sheets are heated in a furnace to a tempering temperature and the glass load is transferred at a transfer speed (W) away from the furnace into a tempering unit, in which the actual quenching is conducted by blasting cooling air onto both surfaces of the glass sheets. • Publication number: 20210380461
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for tempering a glass sheet to a surface compressive stress of at least 150 MPa, without hair cracks, to optically good quality and energy-efficiently. Quenching is carried out when the glass sheet travels through a quenching section by blowing air jets on upper and lower surfaces of the glass sheet by a blower, through blowing apertures in the cover of a blowing box and by air compressor pressure through pipe nozzles. In the quenching section, both above and below the glass sheet, are at least three successive compressed air convection blowing zones with separately adjustable blowing pressures. Zone-specific differences in the heat transfer coefficient are implemented by changing the blowing pressures of the pipe nozzles.

Abstract: In a method for tempering a glass sheet, based on identified glass sheet properties, a tempering furnace temperature and/or glass sheet heating time are adjusted, the blowing pressure and/or distance of cooling unit air jets are adjusted, the glass sheet is heated in a tempering furnace, the achieved temperature is thereafter measured from the glass sheet surface, and the glass sheet is cooled. The development of the thickness direction temperature profile of the sheet during the tempering cooling is calculated, the residual stress profile achieved in the glass sheet during tempering is calculated, a reference variable for the glass sheet tempering level is selected and the selected reference variable is compared to a predetermined threshold value. If the comparison between the reference variable and the threshold value fulfils a predetermined criterion, an alarm is created and/or the glass sheet is found not to qualify as safety glass.

Abstract: A method for tempering substantially flat glass sheets. A glass sheet is heated to a tempering temperature and quenching is conducted by blasting cooling air to both surfaces of the glass sheet. The quenching of a top surface and a bottom surface of the glass sheet's both side lanes is commenced earlier or is performed at the early stage of quenching more effectively than the quenching of a top surface and a bottom surface of the glass sheet's middle lane. As a result, the compressive stress required for a desired tempering degree is established on both surfaces of the side lanes earlier than on both surfaces of the middle lane. In order to achieve this, the cooling air enclosures above and below a glass sheet are provided with a subarea of weakened cooling effect.
