Abstract: The present invention provides methods of producing L-lysine at a high yield using an Escherichia bacterium, especially E. coli, comprising a wild type or variant dapA gene of B. subtilis. The invention also provides related recombinant Escherichia bacteria, especially E. coli, for use to produce L-lysine.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for separation of diols from a mixture comprising diols and polyols, for example, from a reaction mixture obtained from hydrogenolysis of sorbitol. In particular, the present invention relates to separation of diols from the mixture using a combination of a wiped-film evaporator and a molecular evaporator to obtain diols in a high yield.
