Abstract: A system and method directed to reducing the risk of fraud in financial card transactions. The system includes components for a second authorization on an independent communication channel for confirming financial transactions. The components include a second authorization module configured to receive an authorization request for a financial transaction and a software application operating on a mobile communications device configured to provide an interface for a cardholder. The software application is configured to exchange information with the second authorization module. The system being configured to provide criteria for which transactions require second authorization based on a cost threshold. The system is configured to deny a transaction when the second authorization request is not approved within a time limit. The method includes using the system.
